Strawberry ice cream rocks, but I like rocky road and pecan pralines and cream too.

Best ice cream brand? I like Edy's as it's the best I could have gotten in VA, but my absolute favorite is Blue Bell from Texas. I grew up on their vanilla ice cream and it's by FAR the best stuff ever.

I have to go check out the ice cream here in Durham.

A good premium vanilla on it's own is hard to beat.

But I also think Moose Tracks is very good.

I also enjoy a good coffee ice cream. Sometimes with some chocolate syrup on it. If I'm every getting a shake at Oberweis Dairy (a very good local ice cream chain) I ask for one made with coffee ice cream and chocolate syrup. :lick:

Nope. Vanilla is an actual flavor. Vanilla beans, or the extract from them is added as a flavoring. It is not added to all icecream. If you go to Cold Stone Creamery you can get "Sweet Cream" icecream. That is the unflavored base.

As far as the "grocery store 1/2 gallon" brands go, Breyers vanilla IS very good. However, I don't think it can stand up next to a true premium brand (such as Haagen-Das).

Haagen-Das is the shiznit!! That is a word..right?

I didn't want to mention that brand because I might sneak up to 7-11 and get some. I also heard that they add something to the mix which stimulates your brain to want more. Seriously.

Sure, maybe with a generic brand. But a real vanilla ice cream has some real flavor. Try a premium brand, like Dryers or Bluebell. Not that brick of ice they call vanilla for $1.99.

Dude... you must have a serious hard on for some Vanilla ice cream to keep talkin' about it and such...

BTW.. .in your initial post, you stated "vanilla" as your favorite. That's plain Vanilla... not "French Vanilla", not "Vanilla Bean Vanilla"... just "vanilla".

In that incarnation of ice cream... it is still just a BASE ice cream for me (and yes it is good on pie and brownies and whatnot... but then again, those additional items add additional flavors to the combination). If all I have is a few scoops in a bowl with nothing else... then I just prefer chocolate... and others here prefer what they prefer.

Even with Breyer's vanilla.... which is good ice cream, I still prefer Breyer's Chocolate ice cream more. I generally don't even mess with any of the "generic brand" ice creams... they SUCK. For me, in a store it's Breyer's, Homemade, or Blue Bell.... and there are other premium brands that I like too.

So why are you continuing to try to convince us that yours is better? Just live and let live and enjoy your sweet cold creamy treat. Mmmmkay? :D

hmmm... yes perhaps...
i'm actually referring more to the texture of breyer's as opposed to the flavor. but then, that might be because i grew up eating all the other typical ice creams, so when i tried breyer's for the first time, it felt really pasty on my tongue.

I think all the data saying vanilla is the most common flavor is misleading. I'll bet there are a high percentage of restaurants and luncheonets in the country that feel they need to have some ice cream around for a customer who wants it...so they just stock vanilla. If the customer had a choice, he/she would probably pick something else, but given no choice takes vanilla to put on his/her pie, etc.

I'm not saying you or anyone else has to like vanilla ice cream (and don't be telling what kind of vanilla I like btw). Just that it is it's own flavor. Your favorite it your favorite, just don't be dissin' mine. You do not take vanilla ice cream and add chocolate to make chocolate ice cream. You add chocolate to unflavored ice cream.

I never dissed you or your "cream"... I already said that I like vanilla, but I like chocolate better.

I just used what YOU said in defense of vanilla... you changed it up with further discussion. I didn't tell you what you liked either... you mentioned the difference with the "beans" and such. Go back to my previous post... and I said.. it was a base "to me" NOT you... so back up off of me.

So why are you so hot over this? Geez... I had let it go... are you willing to let it go? I already said "live and let live".. what more do you want? You are still entitled to your opinion as am I.

So can we consider this dialogue closed now? If not... the PM button is over there. Feel free to use it before GAM comes in and shuts down the place.

I totally agree. I think their ice cream has a funky taste to it. I love a good vanilla once in a while and I tried theirs. :puke: I let my grand kids eat it. It was gross. A feww major stores here carry a store brand called "Private Selection" which is pretty good. They have one called "Cherry Cordial" That is pretty similiar to Chery Garcia. I still like Rite Aid the best but I won't turn down ice cream very often. (note junk in trunk for living proof) :munch:

Ben and Jerry's chunky monkey is good, but I got burnt out on their ice cream when I worked there as an ice cream scooper when I was 16.
