These are the stuff I am looking for

Lightweight and thin
Nice Fast Processor to play games, video editing, CAD etc
Atleast 40 GIG.. Will be hooking up my 200GB ext HD
Dont care about how much memory as long as its got DDR memory not DDR2...
Got around 2 x 1 Gig DDR SODIMM ram lying around my desk
Definitely has to have a video card with 128mb RAM
DVD/CDRW
Price around $1250

I was looking at the Dell Inspiron 6000 and the Latitude D810..

Thanks For helping!

It's outside of your price range but what you want is the IBM Thinkpad T42p... add about a grand to what you're willing to spend, and you'll have the ideal machine.

t42
a little more 1500

IMPORTANT NOTE: these are very customizable, ranging from optical drive to hard drive to memory. plus free offers including free 512mb ram upgrade/ port replicator ii. great deal for t42 (better than t43 for gaming)

click to t-series; the t42 is rated/reviewed to be better than the t43 in some ways- most notably for its graphics power. the t42 w/ 64mb mr9600 or 128 mb firegl2 can handle doom3 and hl2, whereas the t43's x300 cannot. also, this price is great considering the 7200rpm the t42 comes with, as well as the 14.1 SXGA+ screen. in simple terms, the t42 is superior to the t43 for gaming.

+3 year warranty!

For some reason my T40 has a Radeaon Mobile 7500 and it is horrible with 3D games. I am running the stock IBM drivers, but when I try to use the ATI ones it doesn't work right. Besides that its a great solid laptop.

Love my 6000, though I'm not a hard core gamer. Should be able to find a good deal on it...

Good luck...

An Inspiron 6000 with 128MB video card or Inspiron 9300 with 256MB video card (what I'm playing WoW on right now ;))

How is the Latitude D810?? Its got a X600 128mb video card.. Is that any good??

The Inspiron 6000 has X300 128mb Video card..

I really like the Toshiba Qosimo.. Looks sweet! But really expensive

I might settle with an Inpiron 6000 or Dell Inspiron 9300

Which is bigger? 6000 or the 9300??

If nothing works out, I will wait for the $750 off deal :)

9300 is 17" widescreen, 6000 is 15.4" widescreen.

I've had both (8600 is 6000's predecessor) and both fit in my backpack about the same. One's 1-2 lbs heavier. Eye of the beholder...

The D810 is an excellent choice - you'll notice a difference between the X300 and the X600 if you're gaming, so I'd go with that over the 6000.

All of the laptops you mention are pretty big & heavy - 7lbs minimum. That's why I mentioned the T42p - it's the only real lightweight machine I know of with a nice high end video card. Notice it's the T42p, not the T42. Big difference - the p is the model with the high end video. But it's expensive.

Oops! Sorry - my mind is working faster than I can type coherently.

In summary:

X600 is better (faster) than the X300.
Also, Latitude line is more solidly built than the Inspiron line
Therefore, I'd recommend the Latidude D810 over the Inspiron 6000.

It's good for gaming but I don't think it's a light laptop.

It's big & heavy & I haven't heard good things about it. Saw one at an AMD exhibit & it was broken... if they can't even keep their demo machine running, how good will the production ones hold up? I'd stay away from that one.

HOw are the Latitude D810's and the Alienware Laptops??

Jeffbx

Latitudes are excellent machines for a good price.

Alienware are very good machines for an outrageously high price (but they have wicked cool colored cases!)
