So I was looking around for a new DVD-burner, and came across something I had not previously seen, and thought it might be something worth looking into at some point.

Has anyone used or heard anything about SATA DVD-Burners?

I noticed Panasonic is pretty much the only company that's advertising them.. though I could very easily be reaaaallly blind.

I also noticed that most of these are IDE-SATA bridges, I'm not sure exactly what that is, but it seems like the drive more than likely is ~EIDE 'speed'..

Thoughts?

I would think as the popularity of SATA drives grows you will see more optical drives with made with the SATA hookup's but since the majority of people have machines with IDE connections not many people are putting in the extra cost of the bridge.

Plextor also makes SATA DVD burners. I would buy it if I needed to use the IDE channels for the hard drives (more than 2).
