I paid mine off after ten years in my house. It was such a great feeling.

If not, how much are your monthly payments, including taxes?

No we just started a mortgage in June. We pay 480 a month and then we have condo fees on top of that. they are 124 a month.

480? Holy crap. That's less than my car payments.

That's it, I'm moving to Ohio. :gle:

My parents paid off their mortgage. I just started last year and mine is 1150+200 condo fee. I hope to upgrade to a townhouse or try to get a place so my monthly payment is under 1000 inlcuding HOA or whatever.

I just made payments 1 and 2. I did the 80/10/10, so I technically have 2 mortgages.

Total, with taxes and insurance included comes to about 925. Thinking about how far away that final payment is knowing I just started makes me despair a bit.

Kudos to you!

well we bought a condo that is a 2 bedroom ranch that is only like 760 square foot, with a basement. It was a starter even though we need at least a 3 bedroom, we hope to move again in like 5 years. Oh also in a bad school district. If I wanted a good school I would have to add like 30,000 to the price for something this size.

My interest rate is low enough that it is more worthwhile to save the cash and invest it.
I have a 30 yr fixed rate mortgage, not one if those interest only APR ones that will end up bankrupting people later when rates go up.

So long as I stick with low risk investments that return more than I am paying in interest (after considering taxes) then I am safe. I will also have a hedge against hard times in the event something goes wrong. Equity in a home is nice, but not always the best investment option. It's a good one, but depending on circumstances, other investments might be more appropriate.

If I was older, I would see boosting equity as the best for me, but right now, careful investment appears to be my best choice.

Is that including taxes and insurance? If so.. then what is the square footage?

Here in Indy, with taxes and insurance included, I'm paying about $670 per month for about 1600 square feet of house.

4 years into our 30 year fixed, though it's not going to take us that long. Payment is around $2,100/month...

Congrats MK. I bet it's a great feeling.

760 sq ft. with a basement under it that is the same sq ft.

Um insurance is separte because it is a condo and that is only 14.25 a month. So all in all I pay a total of about 618.00 in all.

I live in the inner city school district where football games can't have the visting teams sepatators. Unless you go to the home teams school you can not watch the game. This also goes for basketball. We also have elementary kids bring knives and guns to school. so Really not a good school district. I will be home schooling my kids for at least five years while we live here.

That would be because you are living where the turf meets the surf. Up in the rarified air. Bing Crosby's old stomping grounds. Each little perk costs. $$$$ :woohoo:

I heard recently that Youngstown, Ohio, has the cheapest home prices (probably speaking of urban areas) in the country.

Now, if there was just a reason to live in Youngstown.... :heh:

We should FINALLY be closing on our house on the 31st (or early next month). Our mortgage payment will be about $725/mo. 3,500SF but we put down about 2/3 of the house's cost.

Sort of... we charge rent to relatives who have poor credit and need a place to live. they basically pay part of mortgage and we get the tax writeoff

You're living IN actual DC for $810 a month? Do you live without air conditioning? Is your bedroom window riddled with bullet holes? Perhaps you have four roommates, and that's your share of the rent?

In other words, whose leg did you have to hump to get that deal? ;)

I live three steets over from the suburbs so my neighborhood is safe but the schools are the pits. especially since they have this really weird habit of trying to racially balanced means you can end up going to the school that is on the other side of town. I think it is a really stupid policy.
