i took a blaw class ages ago, but I can't seem to remember how long checks are valid for. Even tho some say void after 20 days or 60 days etc etc. They can still be cashed past those alloted days. But there is a date where they are truly void. When is that date?

ALSO, if you do manage to deposit those checks, and they are over the voided date mark, what can the bank do to you?

ANOTHER QUESTION!!! What happens if you cash a regular check, and the person doesn't have funds in their account, will I get charged for the other person not having funds in their account?! And will I get the monies?

To your last two questions: Yes you get charged and No you don't get credited.

I'm treasurer of our church. Last month we got a check from the vending company that handles the pop and candy machine in the church. It was dated 1/5/2005 by mistake, as it should have been dated 7/5/2005. Under the amount the check says "void after 90 days". Sure enough, the bank returned the check because it was more than 90 days old.

So yes, they do check the dates.

If you deposit a check that bounces, your bank can (and probably will) charge you a fee for the check. The last time that happened to us, we were charged $10. No, you don't get the money, the bank takes it back out of your account, and you are expected to track down the bad check writer and get your money. Fortunately for us, this was only a $20 check. However, this happened to us with a $200+ check about 20 years ago. Because the bank took the $200 out of our account, we had our checks bouncing all over the place.
