My wife keeps asking me for suggestions to buy for her best friend's birthday present. Now this friend just had her first child this year and its not a special birthday (by special I mean, 21,35,30,40 etc)

Given that she just had a kid, i was suggesting *ahem* adult *adult* presents so that she could steal away and give herself a break if the need arose. By this I meant the type that requires batteries or a Nija special. It was more of a gag gift idea than anything else.

The only non-adult idea I suggested was buying a dvd movie. "We" got her a coach purse last year. Wallets are personal choice. She is framed out.

So anyone have a suggestion? We are trying to be cost effective, but not downright cheap. I.e. - probably $50 max this year due to my putting my foot down regarding perceived inequities.

A spa package.

And if you feel she wouldn't go, bring it to her with a gift basket. Good music, lotions, body wash, poof, candles, a good book and the rest. So when the baby is asleep, she can go and find peace.

I gave my friend a gift for the Christmas after she had her twins. It included scented candles, instrumental, relaxing music, a romance book, bubble bath & some chocolate. Everything she'd need (like Chrissy said) to go and relax when the babies were asleep. :)

Honestly, I dont think they have spas where they live. Plus we dont live anywhere near them. The relaxation basket idea sounds pretty nice....I will definitely tell my wife that one. The only negative is that every christmas my wife gives her candles and lotions as part of her gifts.

A gift cert for going out to dinner. If she is a stay at home mom, going out to a quiet dinner might be the thing she needs. Or pay to have a maid come and clean the house.
