How to get rid of ugly tan lines?

I don't know if this is the right place to post this question but what can you do about ugly tan lines? While I was on my cruise a couple of weeks ago, I work a tank top over my bathing suit for about an hour and ended up with these horrible strappy tan lines over my shoulders. i didn't really care at first because i figured i would just wear clothes that would cover the pale white stripes going up and down my shoulders - but it's beginning to become a real pain not being able to wear my halters and tube tops. does anybody have any clever ideas?

Cover the tanned spots in sunscreen, then go out and tan just the pale strips. Just keep an eye on them. If they are just a little light...it's not too bad...but don't make them too dark...they'll look funny.

Self tan those areas. The Neutrogena bronzing self-tan foam works pretty well. I'm doing it for my wedding cuz I have almost permanent bikini tan lines, and i have this horrible sock tan from playing soccer all summer long.

i think the only way to really get rid of them is to tan either topless or with a strapless top...so you'd be darker overall, but eventually the lines will fade a little.

Another idea for next time is to go to a tanning salon before any trips so you will already have an even tan and you wont have to worry about lines.
