Hi Everyone,
I am trying to start a discussion board for men (no offense ladies). Please give me any suggestions or feedbacks on what topics interest you.

I think you should discuss your feelings and why men dont cry when they are sad, or why you dont cuddle after sex... discuss how it makes you FEEL when no one compliments you on your new outfit or your new hair cut... :neartears
just kidding
talk about a birth control pill for men, thats a good one.

well, i hear there is one, but is it available yet... I dunno, maybe have a poll to see how many men think they would actually remember , or want, to take a pill everyday. I know a few guys who used condoms and still got the girl pregnant...i think the pill for men is an excellent idea.

I've created a Poll/Survey section on the site where anyone can ask these types of questions and see what the pulse is.

Online chat is a great idea. Do you have any suggestions as far as a solid script/program to use? And yes gay men are men too, but I have to focus on a niche. If there is enough requests to open up a board on gay men talk then I will consider it.

Might ask Apex and Leon what they use for the chat page here. I know it is based off of IRC. It's like a java applet to run the IRC room.

I hope this is a going to be a niche website, because if it is somehow directed to just "men" in general, by default it is going to be considered a gay site. And I can't think of a niche that isn't already covered, i.e. women, health, autos, trucks, sports, etc. on the web.
By saying men, it's just too broad of a category.
martialtiger
08-14-2005, 01:14 PM
That is the plan and I think the one niche is that men can come together and create an online club that will have benefits, etc from companies that cater to men (free promos, discounts, etc).
I agree right now it is too broad and vague and that is why I am looking for suggestions. I have things in mind but the base of the community needs to be formed first. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

My apologies, I don't mean to make it sound more manly than any other site that is geared towards men. It is not in any way the backdoor lovin'-esque that you picture. The niche isn't anything new as in any other type of product or site. It's about reinventing it though that will separate it from the other sites.

why are you flaming my thread? I was simply asking for suggestions and ideas. MensBathroom I think is catchy for a community site. I guess we're all entitled to our opinion but I was always thought that if I had nothing good to say, then I shouldn't say a thing. Be a little more constructive. You'll get further in life.

:heh:
You want flaming? Too bad. I don't flame, usually.
When I think 'Men's Bathroom' the first thing that comes to mind is a dirty, urine smelling, dank room. Toliet paper all over the ground, a constantly running urinal and a leaky faucet are all added bonuses. This is exactly the type of place I want to hang out with a bunch of other dudes, and bull**** with for long amounts of time. The logical leap to include a gloryhole into this picture-esque locale isn't a hard one (excuse the pun).
You are correct in that, we all have our own opinions. It's just mine is better to me, than yours is ;)
I was always thought that if I had nothing good to say, then I shouldn't say a thing.
Sounds like a problem that you should deal with Dr. Cruise, the psychologist ;)

Maybe that's the kind of sh*t you like to think about. Honestly, you seem to be upset about the fact that I am exclusing your infamous gloryhole idea. Who the f*ck is Dr Cruise. Seems to me, you're the one with the problem since you know this Dr Cruise. Whatever the case is, if you want to take this up further, just PM me so that the topic remains intact. Something you seem to lack "tact."
For everyone else, I apologize that I even had to resort to responding to Nija's immature remarks. It's childish I know but sometimes you need to stoop to other people's levels just to get them to "understand."
And just to clear any misconceptions up that Nija's remarks may have left behind. Initially I chose to purchase MensBathroom.com as a domain to create a humor/joke site. But as I continued to think more and more about the idea, I thought why not create a site for guys to just be guys.

I thought why not create a site for guys to just be guys.
Now THAT is really starting to sound gay! :heh:
Look, their's a term we use for a place where guys hang out exclusively with other guys. Its called a sausage party.
Really, guys can "be guys" most anywhere they want. We're not all that self-conscious about it. Just ask any woman, I'm sure they'll have some embarassing anecdote. Its one of the great things about being a guy, actually. And you know what guys REALLY like? They like having women around. So please take this as constructive advice. You're getting a lot of jokey responses because:
1. Its a pretty jokey idea, for the reasons specified above.
2. Someone has already petitioned the board some time ago with a similar idea, only it was gayer, and everyone here had a good laugh over it (and still do, from time to time). You're filling in his shoes very nicely, whether you know it or not, thus everyone's already programmed to dismiss you in similar fashion.

Mensbathroom???
Sorry, I don't think a "men's" site should have anything to do with bathing in the title unless it is a gay site. Sounds to me like a place that would discuss bath houses that only cater to men. You know, the ones with private baths, the ones without female attendants that accept large tips. ;)
And don't be talking smack to Nija. It's a good way to earn the ire of a lot of long time members here. He gave an honest opinion and you attacked him for it.

Like I said before everyone is entitled to their opinion and grant it I already know some will say their's is better than me, so be it. I accept constructive criticism, just not flat out criticism. I honestly just wanted to create a site for guys to shoot the sh!t without having to worry about offending women. We all know growing up a lot of the trash talking, jokes, slander that we saw in the men's bathroom and that was the concept I initially started with. However, I thought it would be great to have a site where guys can post just about anything including the jokes, humorous stories, etc.
For the record, I did not attack Nija unprovoked. It's not my style to talk sh!t to people and I admit I was out of line. I even sent GAM a PM about what I did. I had a difficult time sleeping last night because I was really disappointed. Up until Nija's comment, everything was going well. But I won't go any further with explaining myself or the situation. My apologies for having taken this thread off topic. Just know I accept any criticism you all have to offer, just give me constructive criticism (i.e. that domain name sounds gay... how about you choose one that sounds or has....) Now that would be more constructive.
If anyone has any personal attacks on my thoughts or opinions, then at least just PM me about it so that the thread can get back on track. Hell I'm good for the laughs and jokes, go ahead and start a thread on it if you want. I do not mean to stir things up but I will not back into a corner just because of my status on the site or post count.
This is exactly why I want to create a community site. One that accepts everyone regardless of their join date, post count, etc. At any rate, if you don't like the idea, then there is no need to ever visit the site. But if you feel it's a great idea but needs changes (like domain name), then please just say so and I'll do what I can to meet your requests.
Thanks for the reality check guys (& gals). :) I hope we can all still get along in the long run. Nija, I really am sorry I resorted to responding the way I did last night. I would edit the comments but I want it to be real and I'm not afraid to take more heat from it. I think you all have great ideas or else I woud not even bother responding anymore.
Happy Monday to you all!

the sexual preference of someone holds no real weight on their "expertise" in particular field. Not all doctors diagnose symptoms the same, nor do all lawyers argue cases from the same view. :)

Well, yes, there are some who would do that too. But I don't think that will be the general consensus in this instance.
Martialtiger has chosen a difficult undertaking. He want's to build a sight primarily for straight men. I think he just needs a name with "tech" in the title. Tech sites are notorioulsy devoid of female participants.
The probelm is that there are so many conotations with different phrases. Things seen as exclusively male are immediately associated with homosexuality.
There are certain all male activities that generaly might avoid this label, like "Poker night" and "Guy's Bowling night" but even "Guy's night out" can be twisted into meaning something it wasn't intended to.
Perhaps if he tried something a bit more highbrow, like "Gentlemensroom" it might be able to dodge the automatic labeling.

Generaly, if a gay guy says something is gay, it's gay. It's called personal experience. When the particular "expertise" is sexual preference, then the sexual preference is applicable.
Most competant doctors will diagnose the same symptoms as the same disease. I don't think that the complexity of a true/false statement (gay/not gay) in an way can compare to a complex legal argument.

Well... I tend to agree with most of the other posters here that as a guy, I'd probably be VERY hesistant to visit any "mens" site that overtly expressed itself as such and had a name like the "men's bathroom" and such (with all the connotations that go along with it.)
If you really want to create a "mens" site (and of course, there are women out there who will join just for kicks... unless you have some kind of screening process to gain access.) then maybe you'd want a site like Got|Apex that has all kinds of things that men would like to talk about freely with each other: (Electronics, Saving Money, Sports & Entertainment, and General talk... along with the obligatory "hot chicks" area.)
Definitely most of us straight guys will NOT go anywhere where the connotation could lead to the site being a "gay hangout" site. And honestly, with the name you were proposing, that most likely is what it would become (whether that was your intent or not.)
Now as far as Nija goes... he just speaks his mind. Now granted, you might not wanna hear it like that, but dig through his humor and sarcasm and you can clearly see that he's basically saying that you may be missing your mark here.
Just look at most Men's Magazines: "Maxim, King (for the Black man of course), Stuff, etc... these are the kind of things that we want to see and talk about. I'd suggest gearing your site in that direction and coming up with a name that supports that vision.

I'm gonna be frankly honest with ya...
Most straight guys don't really wanna hang out anywhere that there are NO women at. Granted, we have fun here at G|A that is about 75 - 90% male (depending if that was a "piss off the girls month) and it has just about the right mix for us to feel at home without any feelings of it being a "sausage fest".
Honestly, for what you are proposing, I still think that you'll end up with clientele that was not the original intent.
BTW... even if you made it "www.thisisamansworld.com" (ala the James Brown song) most folks won't construe that the wrong way unless on the very first pages you start pushing some very heavy gay action or something...
If you had a site like that with the kinds of topics mentioned above, then yes... maybe it would catch on. But definitely, nothing related to bathrooms and backdoors... :nono:

personally, i don't understand what sort of niche you are trying to hit. a site for guys is not a niche. because there are TONS of them as many of us have mentioned. Having a girl do "Q&A" sessions with guys isn't a niche either. Its like a Dear Abby. Besides, i don't get why you would use a women to mod and give advice-type things to men when most women don't understand men.
Personally, I'd go with one thing that you think guys like, and brainstorm on it further. the name of the site is really not that important, but your idea is.
Good luck, hope you find something worthwhile.

I'm with all the ngay sayers... why just one woman. Women's taste in fassion/guys/whatever vary alot. For example shaving. Some women like dating mole-rats; some women like dating yettis.

Good point. personally, if I where doing this, I'd find good looking women, promote the good looking women and let your male audience know that they can ask them any questions and so forth. let the girls be the feature. there are only so many things most guys love; hot women, technology, food and sports.

i'm in agreement with most of what has been said about the domain name, but let me offer a suggestion of sorts about the site itself. i think you've spread yourself wayyyy too thin with all the different forums you've got listed. it's a tad bit overkill. if there were a way to pare down the number of forums, i think it'd be far less overwhelming and a much more user-friendly site.

Actually a member of another forum volunteered to do a ask Nikki section. But my girl wants to contribute too. I think as far as names, since everyone is saying that is the least important, I'll just stick with LordsofTheRemote.com. Thanks for the suggestions though!

:lmfao: Very creative... for some reason I was thinking it symbolized something else.

Damn good idea! I'm gonna see what I can do about this.

So I should just keep it simple and then if members make suggestions to just add on later? I'll have to look over my list and see which ones can be combined. Thanks.

You want some ideas on how to run a site aimed at guys? Look at Ernie's House of Whoop @ss. Google it and you should find a link. Warning, it's not work appropriate. The site is tremendously successful not because they suggest it's a "guys only" site. Ernie posts some really awesome stuff that just cater towards the caveman in all of us.
What makes it better is he's attracted quite a female following for the site, and chicks that dig doing guy stuff make a guy site all the more appealing to guys. (And thus avoids the homo undertones of anything relating to dudechat or gloryholes.)
The point is, you don't want to have to have a domain that explicitly says "guys site" or you're going to draw the impression that you saw here. Pick a site name that just doesn't sound appealing to women and you'll get what your looking for.

thanks for the info. I checked out the site and it looks cool. Definitely something I'd like to incorporate into the site as well. Thanks for the pointer.

a double entendre is a a word or phrase which depending on the interpretation can have a dual intended meaning.. Usually one of the meanings is innocent... and the second meaning is usually naughty.

i got the bare minimum up and wanted to see if anyone would be interested in helping build up the community. If so, just register and head over to the Pre-Launch board. Eventually the plan is to build a team that will be self governing and sustaining.
