I wonder if this can be used as a lighter, or more as a welding tool?

What do people use this thing for? I've tried the following uses for the torch already:
Used the torch to weld a new setting for the Hope Diamond. I melted the diamond instead! Uh oh, the torch is not useful for that.

Tried to bring the torch with me on my latest trip but it was rejected at the airplane gate. Because it was not legal, I was turned back at the gate (because they wouldn't dispose of it for me) and I had to dispose of it myself outside of airport facilities and try to make it back in time for my flight. So, the torch can't travel. The security people don't listen and don't care that it was originally sent by air. They just look at it as a possible incendiary explosive weapon aboard the airplane. And they fined me $10,000 under Clinton's new law when I said that it wasn't a bomb.

Tried to use it to re-weld Spigidygak's braces when he mentioned they were coming loose. However, he wouldn't let me anywhere near his braces with that torch. Another failed use!
So, I've got three out of three failures for using the torch! Is there any practical use for these things for the common GotApex'er????

I had installed Spector (http://www.spectorsoft.com/) in your home or school or library or internet cafe or work or someone else's PC to whome you were IRC/ICQ'ing with!!! ;) ;) ;)

(pssst, Actually, it was serendipity and coincidence. For the purpose of the story I made the statistical assumption that you had braces and lucked out that you had them!)

Either the site is swamped, or these things are gone, cause I can't get to it.
I bought mine yesterday though, so I don't really care...

I'm still at a loss what I'd do with one of these torches as I don't have a fish tank that needs repairing.

I started to daydream about small flames. Take a small crucible (one of those small ceramic crucibles with lid from chemlab) or use aluminium foil to create an enclosure. Put small amount of steel wool inside along with powdered sulfur. Place lid (or seal inside aluminium foil) over crucible and heat with torch. Ignore sulfur smell because you have ventilation. When done cooking the mess, you have created Ferrous sulfide from the reaction of iron (steel wool) and sulfur. Add HCL (swimming pool acid) which will react to create H2S (super stink). Do not make a stink in front of ventilator intakes because that will stink the whole building. Anyways, it was just a fratboys' daydream.

Good thing I got my order.... of three

I kinda wanted to get some more. These things are so sweet. Great for those 4th of july fireworks... no more fooling around with incense!! Also kinda makes a neat gift for the handyman. Put one in your car in case you need to light something (flare, campfire, etc...)

At least RS sent it out quickly...

Heh heh heh... fire fire fire!!! Heh heh heh... coool..

I recieved my torch today, and I put in an order for ten more.. these will make great last minute gifts. The fuel doesn't last forever though.. I've been playing with it for the past two hours and it's 1/4 empty. It has a fuel cartridge that looks like it has a spot for refuling on the bottom.. I'm not sure if it can be replaced by a vanilla lighter or not.

This deal recieves the Altrax Koala-Tea seal of approval.

looks like the link is dead... either they sold out or decided that this sudden rash of orders was a bit much

axlman

Cigarette or small joint? No problem, just take out the lighter inside and light away.

Big cigar? Yeah baby... that's what the torch is perfect for!!!!!

For those real haughty fellows, it's great for pipes too...

I believe you can adjust the size of the torch flame by adjusting the lighter flame.

Hehe, guess they freaked with the tens of thousands of orders coming in for a little "torch".

Argh... too bad, I was going to put in my order for some more...

spigidygak

I bet they took it off so they can raise the price . I mean, there had to be a grip of orders since I didn't find this deal myself. Hehehe.

Pretty cool little toy. Yes, you can adjust the flame size with the lighter adjustment.

For those who wanted to see a picture, check out http://www.cardstone.com/New%20Arivals/Micro_jet.htm which looks exactly like the one I received, except mine is made by "Tech America" instead of "Nimrod".

For those who missed the deal:bawl:, here is one for $9.97 +S&H w/o the lighter. Not as good a deal, but better than $20 each. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/VOC/f99y/pg30/item_8.html
