To give a bit of a run down, I had a cat a few years ago that was a Persian Longhair. He was a black cat with yellow eyes. We had to put him down at the age of eight because he had skin cancer. I wasn't all too happy about that.

Well, this new kitten that I got a few months ago I have grown extremely attached to. He is an amazing cat and it's been great seeing him grow. The downside is, he is starting to show similar symptoms as the Persian Longhair I had. Right now, the new kitten (herein known as, "Koopa") has a bump on his back that is about the size of a quarter and about 1/4" raised above the rest of the skin in the surrounding area. It's about an inch down from his shoulder blades and about 1/2" to the right of his spine.

I'm just really not in the best mood because I don't want to lose him. I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow. I first noticed the bump on Saturday and I just figured it was a bruise (it wasn't this big on saturday) because he's a kitten. They fall down...a lot.

Wish him luck please!

Unfortunately the veterinarian had to go into emergency surgery when my appointment was scheduled, so it is re-scheduled for tomorrow.

My dog used to get a bunch of "tags" . . . little harmless bumps that looked a bit like warts. They were perfectly fine unless she picked at them. She also had quite a few bumps under the skin that was just fatty tissue . . . but it all kept us on our toes with her worrying about cancer. She ended up living until 17.

I know you've had a bad experience with this in the past, but I'd guess the odds are that the growth is just that - a growth - and not cancer.

Does it feel hard or soft to the touch?

It's not hard, but it's feels more hard than it does soft. If that makes sense.

I just had to take my kitten to the vet a month ago for the same sort of thing. It ended up being a harmless cyst. I was pretty worried about him, but he is doing fine.

You really sound like you have a special gift for animals, and I wish your kitten the very best.

Not entirely ;)

But I'd suggest you take the kitty to the vet to be sure and to put your mind at rest.

In the meantime, I wouldn't worry too much. Little growths are quite common - of course, given your past experience, I'm sure it's difficult to accept that at face value.

Hope all is well with the kitty

The good thing is, he isn't acting differently at all. This puts me in a little bit of a lighter mood about the whole situation. He's still being, Koopa, and that is an attitude all it's own.

Just got back from the Vet. Veterinarian thinks that it is just scar tissue from a previous shot, however he wants me to make sure it doesn't get larger since the last shot was over a month ago and the bump just showed up recently.

Cool! :) My parents dog got that one time. Right back between the shoulder blades. And she had it the rest of her life. heh

And wait, aren't you in California? Isn't it EARLY there? (8:45 or so here... so 6:45 there??) lol
