An intrigue that has been around for a number of months has been seemingly resolved. Intel Corp.’s VIIV brand-name, according to a report, will be aimed at the so-called consumer PCs with rich multimedia capabilities that are designed for living rooms and are primarily aimed to deliver high-quality multimedia experience.

“Ideally, the company hopes to use the campaign to get consumers to start considering PCs as a central part of their home entertainment experience,” Eric Kim, Intel’s chief marketing officer, reportedly told CNET News.com. The web-site claims that other sources pointed out that the VIIV is the trademark to spot computers for consumers.

The VIIV sticker should indicated that the PC contains an Intel microprocessor, a core-logic and a software stack for performing specific functions. The brand-name should tell consumers that the particular PC is tailored to record TV shows, playing music or movies and perform other tasks typical for living rooms.

Intel has been serious about designing products for consumer electronics for years now. Currently the company not only promotes the idea of having a personal computer into a living room, but also offers electronics makers its consumer electronics platform that consists of a processor, chipset and middleware.

The VIIV campaign and appropriate products, which may eventually bolster Intel’s revenues, will be officially unveiled on Wednesday.

LOL! VIIV -- wonder who came up with THAT one? :)

(Does it also symbolize that the setup will be ready for 64-bit applications?)

Woohoo - I emailed this comment to a trade rag columnist, and he emailed me back that he liked it and will probably use it in a coming column, and he will be sending me a free bag. :)
