Pic of The Day: Dragonfly

They do not usually sit still for very long, but I was able to get a few tries at shooting this guy at the reflecting pond in Balboa Park. I tried to frame him with the lilypads in the background.

OK -- why can't I seem to get macro shots that close?

I know our cameras have two macro settings (one at the wide angle position, and one at the telephoto position). Which did you use for that one ZJ?

I'm definately curious as to your settings on this one. :)

I like to use the telephoto macro setting and a manual focus to go with it. It is hard to tell for sure if you are actually in focus since the monitor is so small so I try to take several shots. I move the camera to where it looks sharpest. I can use the digital zoom to check the shot I just took to see if I was in the right place.
