I'm running Win XP on a SATA HDD and have an extra 250 Gb SATA HDD that I want to add as a second drive. I want to format it and partition it into smaller drives. I've done a lot of googling, but I can only seem to find info on formatting HDD's that will have the OS on it. I already have an OS running and want to partition the second drive. Can it be done within windows? Can anybody point me to a good site with easy instructions?

Thanks in advance!

I think you should be able to do it through the disk management.

There's a lot of good pointers here:
http://labmice.techtarget.com/windowsxp/DiskMgmt/config.htm

Especially the one HOW TO: Use Disk Management to Configure Basic Disks (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=309000) (I've linked to the target of the article).

Easiest way to do this.... Partition Magic.

Get that program and it will slice and dice that 250 gig drive however you like... :thumb:

Right click My Computer, select manage, then select Disk Managment. Right click on the 250GB drive, partition and format to your heart's content.

I don't know why MS hides things like disk management away from folks (guess its just safeguarding the bytes, yknow!)

Heh...

It's not hidden if you know where to look...

Administrative Tools > Computer Management has all of those in there... but you gotta know to click there first :D
