They don't come preloaded with a virus.

Looks like somebody turned off the virus scanner at the Creative production plant—it would appear that about 3,700 5GB Zen Neeons shipped since July might have possibly been packing a W32.Wullik.B@mm payload. Of course, if you don’t go running conspicuous applications found on your device and have some cursory virus scanning going on you’ll probably be ok just to wipe the damned thing out of box, but somehow we have a feeling there’ll be an unfortunate few for whom this won’t be too fond an experience.

They don't come preloaded with a virus.Because the exact same thing couldn't happen at some Apple plant...

Probably not, since Apple doesn't preload ANYTHING on the iPods, whereas Creative does (or at least they used to include various audio sampler tracks).

and the apple drive image is more than likely created using a Mac. The likely hood of a windows virus sitting on a Mac going undetected is very unlikely.

there hasnt been a mac virus for OS X since it has been released. That was in 2001.

There HAS been proofs of concepts that were patched, but no real virus.

btw it's HAVE :)

anti-virus protection fixes this for me. i get small bugs now and then, but nothing that takes much time to fix. the funny thing is, i thought ipod's were ok until they became the "generic" mp3 player, just as daversinger and i were saying (not here) that just like all tissue paper is "klenix,"(spelling?) all mp3 players are "ipods". Daversinger's dad bought his wife a palm pilot, and some people were refering to daversinger's mom's new ipod, and talking about how she had a callender on it and everything. Things like that annoy me, and i straightened them out : ) Anyway, if i was going to buy an mp3 player, i would probably buy a creative despite the fact that some 3000 had viruses on them. everyone messes up somewhere.

as for the spelling police...the correct spelling for the generic tissue paper is "kleenex" :D

there was been? :|sorry, i thought nate el bueno was referring to the "has been" portion of the sentence.

there hasnt been a mac virus for OS X since it has been releasedso, if you were to correct it, it would read:

there hasn't been a mac virus for OS X since it was released in 2001.

but, then again, it would depend on how one is to read/interpret the sentence and what the author intended to convey to the reader (man, i sound like an english ap teacher).

Wrong. That's a reason not to get a CREATIVE to me. You probably don't know this, but there are plenty of other manufactuers that make great virus-free products. iRiver for one.

Laughs as you break your 300 dollar toy. /me then slips a cheaper nonapple product in my sock and smacks you over the head/ ;)

I dont know if i can justify paying a couple hundred dollars more to avoid a virus that i would have to choose to run and download.

:stupid: Yeh, only $99...I'm not an Apple fan, but respect the technology and wonderfulness (word?) of the iPod.

BTW all the infected Creative units were shipped to Japan

I personally prefer Creative except for the fact that they don't give as many updates as i would have wished for some of their products.

Pretty sure he said an Ipod not an Ishuffle.. :)

And if you want to look at the price comparisons for ishuffles vs other flash drives, i think the price differential is comparable in terms of %.

And I'm not a hater. I have an ipod. I just didn't pay for it. I'm simply not rich.

I have an IPOD mini (gift) and I wish I had returned it and purchased a creative instead. The ipod feels so poorly constructed. The creative equivilent has many more useful features like an FM radio and not having to use itunes.

Besides their marketing, I do not see why Ipods have such a large following.

When did we start talking about shuffles?

I agree though, the shuffle is a great price because it's actually priced with the other competitors... albeit it lacks most of the features, it's still a good price. What the issue is is 5GB+ MP3 players. Apple's are much higher priced for similar functionality.
