I'm having the carpet replaced in my house. It's going to be in the bedrooms and hallways. I'm thinking the berber seems cooler than the plush, but I have no idea about resale value, ease of cleaning, etc.
What are your preferences/comments?

Berber. Take it from someone who has kids - it'll hold up a LOT better.

I have berber right now as well and there are days I wish I had plush, especially when I have to clean it with my Bissel. I don't have kids (yet), but there are definite advantages to having berber in that regard.

:stupid: big time...
Or you could do wood floor. Wife and I are doing the entire upstairs in wood, getting rid of carpet. Thought of wood instead?

Resale vaule go for berber over carpet. I prefer wood (NOT THAT KIND OF WOOD) myself over carpet.

Wood would add too much expense, because it has to go over stairs, etc. The installation costs on wood rule it out. If all things were equal, that would've been my first choice. :)

I have always been a plush fan.
Remember to get the best padding that you can, it's the best bang for the buck in nice carpet.
Great carpet + ok padding = Ok carpet.
Ok carpet + great padding = great carpet

Berber lasts forever, is lower maintenance, and looks good. We get the plushest pad possible and the berber feels yummy to sit on.

One thing about berber is that it is a bit more difficult to install because it's almost like linoleum in how it highlights cuts and seams. Make sure you get a good installer to do it right or your expensive carpet will look like crap.

I would if it were just one room, or even a normally-shaped room. But odd angles and stairs rule out DIY work on this one. ;)

What kind of padding do you recommend? I need one where sounds doesn't transfer to the condo below because of the DDR thing.

And as time goes on, the seam looks worse and worse.

plush is nice at first..and it makes great way for vacuum lines-which I happen to adore..but it gets worn down fast with traffic and it's not really sturdy compared to the berber..have you thought of looking at a salvage yard for old wood flooring? (hardwoods)..you'd be surprised what you can find, and with the right carpenter to install it-you'll be saving tons of money..
