Got a question. I moved out two months ago and I've been doing laundry every weekend by going home. THis weekend I'm staying put in my apt and was wondering what type of laudry detergent to get, liquid or powder. Any suggestions?

Liquid. All Free is great for cleaning and it is scent-free.

Tide powder, although i'm sold on the liquid. it's tops in Consumer Reports tests.

It is interesting to note that powders generally performed better than liquid detergents in the latest Consumer Reports tests. However, fabrics tend to bleed and fade less when washed with liquid detergents.

Riteaid is selling a 200oz bottle or box for $11.99....good deal or no go?

:stupid:

I'll second on the Tide Powder. We use it and it does an excellent job. If I have to, I will also add a color-safe bleach like Clorox II.

Tide is probably the best, we've used some other brands as well. We mix in some OxiClean with our laundry too. Wife and I think it does some good...

IMHO Tide's over priced. I'm not a really big P&G fan either.

I usually get Cheer from Costco. Tide is a bit harsh on wifey's skin

I usually go with Tide or some variation. For example, today I picked up Tide w/Febreze scent. I hope it's not too strong :-/

Ehh, I don't do laundry. Just throw out the clothes and go to Mervyn's when I need new socks and underwear.

j/k - I'm a huge Tide fan. Tide w/bleach (mountain fresh scent) keeps the clothes spiffy.

If you're talking Tide, that's a really good price. Tide is awesome, but it's one of the pricier detergents. If you use powder, just be sure to put in the detergent once you start it and then wait until it's almost full before you put in your clothes. Give the powder a chance to dissolve and thus leave less white residue on your clothes, especially dark clothes. This is assuming you've got a top loader machine.

If this is too complicated, then just pay someone else to do it for you. :)

My wife used to work for a competitor of P&G & it was pretty common knowledge that Tide was the best out there.

Get liquid, it's much less of a mess. If you use a powder you will have it all over your laundry room/storage closet/whatever.
I just get the Kirkland brand at CostCo. It works, the clothes are clean.

I bought this gallon tub of perfume free detergent at Sears for $9. It's the Sears house brand and it works fine. It's like a years supply.

I don't do laundry.

Do you always buy new clothes or is it stinky-stinky at your place?

To get it done really cheap, use powder and cold water. I turn on the washer, add the detergent, let it dissolve for about 20 seconds, then manually spin the agitator around a few times. I haven't had any trouble with residue since I started this method.

Since I don't like Procter & Gamble or scented detergents, I get Arm & Hammer unscented. I think it's much cheaper.

Let me know how the Tide w/Febreze is . . . I worked on Febreze when I was back in the US (until May) and am curious how the Tide w/Febreze turned out . . . also, how did you find out about the Tide w/Febreze? Do you use Febreze? If so - Fabric Refresher, Air Effects, Scentstories? heh . . . no, I'm not planning on sharing this lil tidbit of market research with P&G . . . just personal curiosity if ya don't mind :)

Cold water TIDE ROCKS!...and saves on the energy bill too..gets clothes sparkly clean and smelling great too.and I like the Tide with downy..mmmmmm.....BUT I discovered a secret, believe it or not the ALDI store sells "their brand" of detergent called Tandil which smells, looks, and washes EXACTLY like Tide regular for about 2.99 a bottle..this stuff works like a charm..(I'm big on saving $$$ when I can and they were giving out samples one day when I took my mom shopping-so I tried it-and I LOVE IT!)...Also, I have found that in the DOLLAR GENERAL-they sell gallon jugs of detergent (and I cant think of the name) but it's two dollars and 50 cents a gallon and it works nice on towels and sheets...it smells great too...
My usual wash consists of Woolite, Tide, Downy or Lavender Mist fabric softener, followed by a spritz of Scottish Linen water while Ironing..
and DONT USE POWDER..IT CLOGS UP YOUR PIPES..(I know this from experience!)

According to Consumer Reports (Oct 05 issue) I'm wrong. At least, if I want my clothes clean. Yes, Tide and Tide variations are best, but if you want to pay half as much Costco detergent is right up there in quality with Tide. Also very good quality is Sears Ultra Plus, Walmart brand, All, Wisk, Cheer, and Gain. And at the bottom of the list? Trader Joe's.

I have a bottle of Febreze to spray on furniture every once in a while.

I just chanced upon the Tide w/Febreze in the supermarket and decided to give it a shot. The scent is rather faint, which is a good thing, but when you're putting on shirts and what not you can definitely smell the febreze in it :)
