Hello,

I'm new on the board. Found it searching on how to enable my external CD/DVD burner to boot in DOS.

I've got a Sony PCG-VX88p laptop (aka PCG-551L) that I'm trying to get WIN XP Pro onto. The problem is the original firewire DVD drive will not boot from the bios. Firewire and CD boot are both enabled there. I found the drive had died, so I bought another external firewire/usb external cd/dvd burner from Sony (DRX-800UL) to try. It won't boot from the bios either, so I'm trying to get to it from a DOS prompt. The hard drive is formatted and I have dos on it. What I'd like to do is set up a ram disk and boot the cd off that to install win XP. The problem is locating a driver that will work in DOS for the external drive (DRX-800UL). I read another post here that got me going in the right direction, I think.
Now, I can get the computer to boot into DOS and load the USB driver I found (usb_cd.sys), but it then stops trying to load the mscdex driver. It looks like I cannot find the right one for this external drive.

This is what I see:

USB CD-ROM Device driver Version 1.04
Device Name : MSCD000
Driver Install failed - [Invalid Parameter]
*** Push any key ***

Device driver not found: 'MSCD000'

I've tried everything I can think of and find myself stuck. Thanks for any advice.
