I like it because it's thinner than an iPod mini and looks like a photo iPod that shrunk in the washer/dryer. It comes in 2GB and 4GB sizes. I wonder however does it still deliver the same sound quality.

A few questions on this. HD based or solid state/flash based? USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 (It doesn't say). USB through dock connector meaning that you have to use a dock connector or can you just a usb cable to charge and sync sans the dock connector?

Why hate? It's (the iPod) a great product. Just because you think it's a stupid idea doesn't mean everybody else does. I have a 3G 15Gb and I love it. Take it with me everywhere. I even bought the Pioneer adapter to plug it into my stereo in my truck.

Are you mad because ATI or Creative didnt come up with it? I mean c'mon, at least give a valid reason for not caring for them rather than just running around yelling "I have been a hater" and "IPOS" without backing it up with some foundation...

For god sakes, APPLE DID NOT COME UP WITH MP3 PLAYERS!!! The only thing apple did was make it pretty and overcharge for it. I dont like apple as a company, and im sure as hell not about to pay 200 bucks for a freakin mp3 player. For 200 bucks you should get at least 20 gigs of storage, but 4 gigs for that price is stupid!

You're right. They perfected it. They gave the consumer's everything they wanted, put a nice little profit on top of it, and they sold like no tomorrow. They win.

I dont know about perfecting it but they did put a nice little apple logo on it and everybody bought it up like sheep. Imagine if microsoft or creative were the ones who came up with the ipod. You know...marketing doesn't work like that. In fact at one point the Apple logo wasn't popular at all. They created a workable and attractive machine and THAT's why people started to love it.

At the time, the mp3 players were crap. They weren't very functional and pretty big. Apple just made it easier. I'm not an apple fanboy, but the Ipod revolutionized the industry.

i've owned ipods, rios, an audiovox, and creative mp3 players. The iPod revolutionized MP3 players by adding a firewire interface. Creative created teh nomad jukebox, which was nice, but too big, and transfering 6GB of music over USB 1.1 sucked. Plus the creative jukebox was heavy.

Once the iPod hit the market, everyone played catchup. They had the size, the capacity, the battery life, and the transfer speed consumers demanded. Apple treats the iPod just like any other Apple product. They dump tons of money into it on R&D to make it better with each and every revision. This forces competitors to play catchup.

Sure some MP3 players have radios, some may offer more capacity for a lower price, but to the average consumer, they are still not an iPod.

Apple made the iPod hip, which made teenagers want it. That is what made it a household name. Have you ever seen a Creative ad on TV targetting teenagers? I never have, and more than likely never will. Apple is very strong when it comes to marketting (they better be, thats one of their biggest markets), and that too has helped them get the iPod to where it is today.

I wento the Apple store to see it in person and I like it a lot. I do feel that if you tilt the nano back and forth you might break the dock connector. I think it could use a bigger LCD but I don't know if that's possible.

I think it's worth $250 because of the size and you can display photos also. It's worth the premium I think. All the other mp3 playes might have bigger capacity and cost less but they can't match the nano in size with the same features.

You are so completely ignorant. Yes, Apple didnt create the MP3 player... nor did I nor anyone say that. I could give a **** less who created it. If Microsoft came up with the iPod, I would have bought it. If Sanyo did it, same thing...

Point is, they took a product and perfected it. Size, storage, interface, legal music downloads, the whole nine yards. Thats why I like it. It has nothing to do with being an Apple fanboi.

All you've proved is that your a biased person with little to no justification or reasoning for your views. Come back to me when you've got some facts to dispute.

Facts: No product is perfect
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15622

every product has its problems therefore nothing is "perfect". i was simply saying that many people (not necessarily you) buy products based on whats cool at the time despite other comparable alternatives. that is why they keep pushing out the "new version" of the ipod so that fanboys can get the new cool addition to the ipod family. seriously, do the few updates to the new nano constitute going out and buying another one? that said, the ipod simply doesnt show me anything that a cheaper alternative cant.

For me the way I look at it is that it's very small and thin, has a good enough capacity, and has a color screen which is PERFECT for me. I spend all day at school and I usually carry everything with me (my locker is inconvinient to get to) so this is great. I have a shuffle and a 30GB Ipod Photo, but the photo is too big and bulky, especially for my backpack that's already full (i'm afraid of crushing it, even with a rubber sleeve). My shuffle is ok, but it's not that great for things other than running (luckily I didn't pay for it). I think I'll my carrying this thing in my jeans pocket all day. It's absolutely perfect (and I don't mean it's a perfect product, I just mean it's perfect with the features).

oops....wow...this thread has gone to a huge argument!!! lol =) sorry I didn't reply sooner. But the main reason why I don't buy an ipod is because of the heafty pricetag. (same reason why I don't like buying pentium, sony, apple etc etc products). there are many products out there which have the same features (minus some trivial features) which doesn't constitute a price gap of $100. and I'm just saying for the nano, one is paying 200 bucks for 2 gigs worth of space. Where as said before, the dell mp3 player has 15 gigs for ~$150. for me at least (I'm solely speaking for myself), I don't see how cutting down a few inches in size and a decrease in memory calls for 200 bucks.

I completely agree Cheesy... I think the price is ridiculous for the Nano. I saw it and thought it was a novel idea, but for only 2-4Gb of space, I though it was overpriced.

I think the retail prices on the iPod photos are a little high as well, and I think thats where the Apple branding comes into play. $299 for an Mp3 player is a bit steep. Now take the education store, which just about everbody qualifies for to take it down to $249 and it's not so bad...

it amazes me how so many people hate the ipod or Apple for that matter.
you have to admit, theyre doing so well because their marketing techniques are great, advertisements went very well, and design is amazing.
all the other companies are just eating it because they cant compete.
Walk into the apple store, and you can see its not just a bunch of kids.

The other thing is that you're not exactly paying for just space. If you were, you might as well just go buy a 3.5" hard drive. 80 Gigs for $80 beats an mp3 player anyday. With an ipod, you're paying for the design, access to the itunes store, and ease of use with itunes (yes, yes debatable). With the nano, you're really paying a bigger premium than normal for size, screen, and so forth. Comparing a 15GB Dell DJ with the nano is almost like comparing a Mini Cooper with a Hummer and wondering about the space/cost ratio...

The 4GB Nano is $249, but with education discount (which I can actually legally use now!) is $229.

I had been waiting for months for the Zen Micro Photo to come out. The choice of colors, its excellent sound quality, 8 gig micro drive, and FM tuner really sold me.

I had plans on selling my iPod I was working on getting for 'free' to buy the micro photo.

Then my 20gig color screen iPod showed up and I decided to give it a try because the new Zen wouldn't be coming out for a month or two.

I like this thing so much I have decided to keep it and not even consider the Zen Micro anymore.

The selling point for me was the availability of a lot of third party programs, particularly iPod Agent. This little program amazed me and literally doubled the use of my iPod because now it auto-syncs everything from my Outlook calendar, contacts, e-mail, tasks, and notes, all the way to the complete weather forecast, movie show times organizable by theatre or movie, and any RSS feed you want.

You can grab it here: http://www.download.com/iPod-Agent/3000-2169_4-10338208.html

As for the iPod Nano, I think it looks awesome. If I were concerned about physical space I would probably buy one before an iPod Mini for the color screen alone...plus it comes in optional black which looks damned sweet. I would probably have a tough time justifying the reasons to pay 200 dollars for it, though. If the price were to be cut by maybe 40 dollars I would see it as being a decent price, but, Apple will be able to sell tons of these tiny things for the price they set already.

All of your CD's are compressed (into MP3 or AAC) when you load them into iTunes. So they're already compressed on your computer.

All the same, 2GB still isn't THAT much. It'd be great for me 'cause all I'd use it for is working out, which would be plenty enough music.
