So my harddrive fried and i had to get a new one for my laptop. Finally got everything installed and working, except the battery stuff.

Generally when i unplug the power the monitor would go to 75%, but now it doesn't do it....under power settings it is listed as a laptop/portable, but i don't see that option anywhere. Without it battery life is terrible.....is there some option in windows, or maybe some specific software i need for that??

laptop is a Sony Vaio PCG-VX88

thanks guys.

All drivers/software are here, BTW: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=PCGVX88&UpdateType=Everything Didn't see any separate power management application (like Quick Set on Dell notebooks).

You probably have to set the display brightness for both modes (battery and AC power) manually using the Fn keys on the keyboard. That's the way my Dell is. Fn + Up Arrow makes it brighter, Fn + Down Arrow dims it. Dont' know if Sony's the same way, though.

did you have to take the keyboard out at all? Did you install the ribbon cable back in correctly?

Those are usually proprietary to the machine, and require a driver to work. Make sure you've downloaded & installed all of the proper drivers, esp. for the system board.
