So..
It all started when my mother woke up one day.. and started stuttering. She has never stuttered in her life.. but suddenly it sounded like one of the worst cases of it. And then she started getting muscle twitches and convulsions that she couldnt stop. After that.. severe mood swings.. and other problems that I cannot remember to mention at this point in time..
She is currently living with my brother.. so after it didnt seem to go away.. He took her too the E.R.
Where they commenced to sitting in an Oklahoma E.R. for over an Hour and a half.. And my brother overhead the nurses saying they figured she was just crazy. They kept telling her that she can't see a doctor because they don't have any "open beds" .. All the while.. 15+ people showed up and went back before she did. So .. After the hour and half.. and people talking about her with her sitting there.. She and my brother decide to leave.. Since she obviously wasn't bleeding all over the place. My mother decides that maybe if she sleeps she will get over it and be better in the morning, she also stopped taking some of her medication that she thought had maybe interacted with something else that she takes..
So anyways.. She woke up the next day and had not got any better.. and as the day progressed got worse.
Her normal doctor is "out of town" and wont be back til tomorrow so she can't call or go see him.
My brother called 911 after lack of any other help being available. The ambulance came and took her to the hospital. Still waiting to see what the diagnoses is.
She has a history of "possible MS" diagnoses's but this would be a very RARE cause of a Sudden Onset of somewhat server MS. So Most likely it is something else.
Anyhow.. I guess I'll find out more after a Doctor reviews it.

Oh wow! I hope they find out soon what is happening. It sounds like it could be very serious!
I will keep her in my thoughts.
I hope she is doing better soon, and shame on the er crew.

I'd be SOOOO tempted to sue that hospital/ER. That was completely unethical. What if she had gone home & something worse had happened?
Keep us updated!

Dunno Jenny, it all depends on how she is presented. Of course more serious issues will go ahead of her if she isn't bleeding, but with these known facts it does sound like something happened in the nervous system. But as long as she has good pulse, and is breathing normally, she will be seen after others who aren't. Apparently, the triage nurse felt she was okay for a bit, I am not saying that it was ethical that she or the staff was talking about her like they did, but it also could have been heard out of context.
I am biased since a really good friend works as a triage CNA (one year away from RN) at Sunrise ER on the weekends here. I hear all kinds of stories from her about things like this.
Oh and if she had been checked in and through the triage nurse and left on her own, they would not be liable for anything happening after she left from what I understand.

She did. The Ambulance took her away. Waiting on my brother to give me a call later on tonight to update me on a status. Once they know more. Seeing as how I'm in California and they are in Oklahoma.. Can't visit anytime soon unless it gets worse.

I'm guessing here.. because I haven't had a chance to talk with my brother and I wasn't there.. but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mention the fact that 15 people went in before them.. if the people he was talking about were sitting there with Gashed wounds or extreme life threatening problems.. just my thoughts.. And I've been to plenty of places where the triage nurses weren't worth the money they paid for their Scrubs.
An hour and a half in Midwest City, Oklahoma is slightly ridiculous. I doubt she has any plans on trying to sue the hospital for the incompetency anyways.

unfortunately, people don't realize that just because a person is presenting as asymptomatic in the ER waiting room doesn't necessarily mean that their diagnosis is not worse than a person who has OBVIOUS physical needs. You'd be surprised how healthy some very very sick people act and look when they are in the ER..only test results know for sure....sorry about your mom, I hope they find out whats wrong with her soon..

Yeah, Chrissy, but he didn't say that she had been looked at by a triage nurse. So I was going on the assumption that she hadn't been.
Hope it all goes ok, regardless!

Hope they figure out what is wrong. Her doc should probably run a cat scan/mri/pet scan of the brain for the presence of a tumor. Just a guess and I am not a doc, but it would be what a competent doctor would do when a patient starts showing atypical speech behavior all of the sudden.

I would have called 911 right from the emergency room. When they showed up I would have asked them to take her to the closest hospital with doctors who actually see patients. I am sure that would have gotten a little action. I'm thinking from the gitgo that she has had a mild stroke. It is unbelievable they didn't take her right back. Hope she is doing better.

They did a cat scan and whatever else the docs do.. and the Neurologist says that it "looks to be withdraw symptoms from medication" .. My mom has degenerative Disc disease.. Fybromyalgia and some other problems along with severe depression.. And I guess her doctor changed one of her prescriptions.. and "supposedly" she was withdrawing from it
Her body just didnt know what to do.. so it started freaking out .. I guess? I don't know.. I'm not doc.

Well, that sounds like it could be good news (considering the alternatives). I certainly hope things turn out OK for her.
Best of luck. Keep us informed as to how she's coming along...

FYI, if you ever actually want to be SEEN in an ER, tell them you've lost conscienciousness and/or blacked out.

So.. Update:
My mother borrowed my brothers car today.. Like she usually does.. because right now she doesn't have one..
After a while.. she still hadn't gotten back.. and my brother went outside to smoke..
He noticed his car was there.. so he was like "uhmm?" ...
He walked over to the car and found my mother slumped over and either not breathing or very very shallow breathing..
So needless to say.. he had to call the Ambulance out again..
still no update on anything yet tho.. They still have the fire truck .. Ambulance.. and Cop cars sitting outside.. So .. maybe before they leave for the hospital he will have some more information for me.

WHATEVER YOU DO-don't let anyone give her coumadin..(blood thinner)
I know too many old people who have thrown clots, stroked out and died from that crap. If I were your family, I'd definately seek a second, or even third opinion-but quick..any big clinics where you live? Luckily for me I'd get to go to Upstate Medical in Syracuse or Guthrie clinic in Sayre PA...ususally clinics get better, faster, more accurate results..

I'm not there to tell them.. And I'm not sure they would do that ? .. Cause she can't have a lot of things cause of the health problems she already has.
Course she isn't that old.. being 50.

only 50? :gle:
i hope she gets things straightened around. sounds like she needs her meds all looked at together to see if there are interactions going on.
i am surprised she wanted to drive so soon. your brother should take her where she wants to go until she feels better don't you think?

Yeah.. I'm not sure why she chose to drive.. But she wasnt "blacking out" before.. I guess her Potassium level was at something like 2.3 or something..
