I got a job at Circuit City as a Computer Specialist and Tech :throw:

I had to quit staples cause I was the only guy who had to cover the full Machines department (computers, cameras, PDAs, printer, networking products, Computer Accessories and softwares). They made me work almost everyday. So that really sucked. On saturday, that stupid manager made me stack pencils and I was the only guy covering the deparment.. I was like WTF?

I applied two days ago at CC and gave them a call the next day.. I was scheduled for an interview today and got hired on the spot.

Ah Circuit City... I worked there for some time...

Delta PM me if you wanna talk about my experience there. I did two summers worth of it back home in NJ and overall had a pretty good experience. They unfortunately don't pay their guys much of anything so I hope you're OK with that.

I guess if you are happy, that is all that matters. In 2000/1, Circuity City did away with commission sales and went to a flat hourly rate for all of their sales people. This led to a mass exodus of the truly skilled sales people and a glut of idiots taking their place. Many of the replacements didnt even know simple terms for parts or the difference between the brand but were soon selling and lying to customers.

Where i worked we had 3 people come from Circuit over to Goodguys in order to keep getting comissions. 2 of the 3 were gone within a month as they were really not up to the par with the level of sales quality expected at GG. The last one who was in my department did fine, but wasnt there for long as he wasnt making as much money as he had been at Circuit. (Big fish, little pond vs. Swimming with lots of other big fish in a big pond)

Congrats on the new job! Sounds like it is a good move, especially getting away from Staples.

I have a friend who worked at CC in the automotive/car audio department doing sales and installations. From what I can tell he didn't have any problems with the job. He left after like 3 years because he wanted to focus on school and World of Warcraft.

Side Question: Just curious but what kind of employee discounts did you get at Staples and what kind of discount will you get at Circuit City?

Staples you get 12% once in 2-3 months.. I picked all the clearence stuff at staples like a $100 leather chair for $5, $89 24 sheet shredder for $10.. If i really wanted anything on clearence and it wasnt available in store, I would call a store in california or anywhere in US which has it and tell them to ship it to me. I pay for it at the store and I dont get charged for shipping.. Even now If i go there, My buddies will do that for me.

At Circuit City, You would get the stuff at the price they bought it.. A USB printer cable is sold for $20 and I will probally get it for $4.. I get it at the wholesale price..

I was beating the Full Timers in sales, warranties, Tech job and installations... They just didnt respect me probally because I wasnt that old?? Everyone in my department were atleast 5+ years older than me..

This is incorrect. This used to be true for employees in the past, but between summer of 2003 and 2004 they restructured their employee discount policy that used to be excellent (which actually was a big motivation for me to go back on the job on summer 2004, despite the low pay). Now there is a small profit padded to things which no longer makes the CC employee discounts as good as they once were - you can figure to take off about 10% on most items with the exception of accessories which you can generally get at 50-75% off. I got a full Alpine car stereo setup installed for about 1,500 bucks when it retailed for easily twice that before they scaled back the discount.

Still there are vendor discounts that you buy directly from the manufactuer. Harman/Kardon has EXCELLENT prices on all of their product line, along with Polk/Infinity. Bose has discounts that make their products somewhat affordable and reasonable. You do this by going through the eLearning site. I still have a 20% employee discount on the plan price from Verizon Wireless despite having left the company June 2004 - apparently the discount doesn't go away even if you're not with the company anymore.

I spent more money buying stuff there than what they paid me - or roughly about even - because the discounts before the restructuring were outstanding. I got some nice stuff from there at crazy prices.

why not??? i'd love to get a discount in an electronics store! I have friends who still work at best buy for just a day a week cuz they don't want to lose the discount on all their toys and gadgets!!

congrats on the job!

I usually buy stuff from ebay.. I only buy from staples only when there is a big clearence.. I got a Logitech LX500 wireless keyboard/mouse for $29.99 clearence and it had a easy rebate for $30.. So its Free After Rebate.. I got a Epson CX6400 AIO for $30!
I really like the clearence price of stuff at staples..
