I have AT&T and they recently merged with Cingular. I was just told that they are going to cancel mmode (web searching and such) for AT&T cutomers starting October 1. My contract with AT&T originally was for phone service and mmode. Can they change the terms of the contract like that?

Yes, but usually this means that you are entitled to cancel your contract without penalty.

Call and complain. You aren't getting what you paid for. See if they are willing to make it up in some other way.
