Holy crap. Why? Money problems, change in focus, etc...?
I hope that you're still employed, and you didn't have to go through tellling any of the others that they were laid off...

I hope you are just saying they were laid off.
I have been through one of those kinds of layoffs before, survivor's guilt can suck.
Stay in contact with the people who were let go. When your job goes away they will be in positions to hook you up.

:stupid: I don't mean to sound callous, but network, network, network.

It's happening here at my company too since we were aquired. People are leaving all over and they are not replacing them. Somehow we are expected to take on the additional workload. I am seriously looking right now but working 60-70 hours a week right now is taking it's toll.

When I started with DEC they had about 130,000 employees. After I was there a couple of years, the cuts started. I lasted until they went from 70,000 down to 60,000. It wasn't the greatest for morale, to say the least.

I didn't loose my job, thankfully. The problems were multi-facited from poor management decisions to poor recruiting to clients defaulting on bills. Our other locations are doing well, so we're esentially starting over with our core people (myself, 2 other senior guys, and 1 sales guy). Our plan is to rebuild the office the way it should have been built in the first place.
I helped carry my [former] boss's stuff out to his car (he was the first to go). That was kind of rough; he'd really lobbied to hire me when I wasn't the first choice of the other hiring folks. We've developed a friendship over the last year, so that was really tough.
After they fired him and talked to the 4 people they kept, our CEO and COO pulled the rest of the office together in one room and dropped the axe. It was pretty much very painful to watch.

Ouch man. Is your boss moving on to bigger or at least equal things do you think? What a drag that must have been. Was it a surprise for most people or did you all kind of see this coming? Either way, what a day that must have been. I hope that the rest of you are able to pull it together.

Digital Equipment Corporation. Need an OpenVMS license? ;) (Actually, I couldn't help you in the least on that, either.)

You might want to update your resume and check all of your options/send it out. That is on the slim chance that they are keeping you just to train up the new people.
