Mikey left for school just a couple min ago. He was running late, so I said that I would feed his betta fish, Booth-a-boo (don't ask, cuz I dunno). He has had this fish for... goodness, a couple years. He bought it and the tank with his own money -- at the store, he said the fish asked him if he could come home with him.
He is just laying there at the bottom of the tank next to his tree.
He is going to be crushed :(

Quick . . . go to the store and get another one that looks the same! . . . he'll neeeeever know the difference! ;)
That stinks, though. When you're young, you don't distinguish between the kind of animal that died . . . dog, cat, fish, mouse, they're all the same and all very painful when you had a connection with it.

ouch, that sucks... the lose of a pet (fish, Mice, Bird, Rats, Lizards, Cat Dogs etc) hurts. Hope he feels better, keep us updated.

I couldn't do that. I mean, Mikey is 8 yrs old, he can handle death.
I hope.
We still have the 29 gal. going with community fish. He has seen them come and go as fish do (we have had 3-4 die and we have had 4-5 babies). But this was his and his alone.
We will take him this weekend if he wants a new betta. He has been looking at goldfish lately. And I am still trying to talk him into Jacks :D

So what I'm hearing here is that you killed fish and are no looking for a cover story. :hmm:

Introduce him to Ciclids. Get a green terror, or even better a pike ciclid and put it in the community tank. Watch nature in action!
I can empathize with your son though - I recently lost one of my prized Clown Loaches that I have had for over 4 years thanks to a Red Empress ciclid that was king of the tank. That caused me to take the Red Empress into the store for a store credit and now I have the johanni confederacy, the bichardi coalition and the jewel ciclid alliance all vying for control of strategic points in my 80 gallon aquarium. It's kind of a tropical cold-war at the moment. Of course I still have my three other 6"-7" clown loaches that nobody messes with now. I love my aquarium(s). :D

If I ever set up my tank... I'm thinking about a Firemouth :)
