This crocodile was found in New Orleans swimming down the street.

21 FT long, 4,500 lbs, around 80 year's old minimum.

Specialists said that he was looking to eat humans because he was too old to catch animals. This crocodile was killed by the army last Sunday at 3:00 pm, Currently he is in the freezer at the Azur hotel. The contents of it's stomach will be analyzed this Friday at 2:30pm.

Well considering the area... I'm not surprised. Lots of wildlife down there in the Bayou.

These photographs actually show a crocodile that was shot and killed on 6 July 2003 at Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo. According to an article in allafrica.com, the reptile was a Nile crocodile whose vital statistics fell a bit short of the claims made above: he was estimated to be 50 years old, about 16 feet in length, and about 1,900 lbs. (not quite the 80-year-old, 21-foot, 4,500-pound monster described in e-mail). The local mayor reportedly insisted on preserving the crocodile's carcass against the efforts of locals who wanted to eat it and arranged for it to be shipped to a taxidermist.

Crocs have longer, slimmer snouts. Gators have fat snouts.

Yeah...

And both are "land sharks" of their respective environments... Personally, I wouldn't want to meet either face to face.

I believe an alligator's jaw/snout is hinged on the top half, while the bottom half is immobile. For crocs, their bottom jar opens while the top half is fixed.

Crocs are more aggressive, bigger and meaner. Crocs are much more likely to attack man.

DF---- I cant believe you dont know the difference between crocs and gators. You call yourself a Floridian!

Crocs are more aggressive, prefer salty water, can be found in the ocean and brackish water. Their mouths are skiny and tapered and when its closed teeth are still The only area in the Continental US where crocs are found wild is the lower portion of Florida, Miami and south. There have been many confirmed sightings of Crocs in Florida bay and even resting on the beach on south beach. The croc in the picture was not the American crocodile which is found in the wild but more likely a Nile crocodile.

The american alligator has a wide range, has a short stubby head that is rounded. Is darker green in color and much less aggressive. When its mouth is closed, no teeth are seen. Although it can occassionally be found in salt water, this is a last resort. It is generally found in any body of fresh water including an occassional swimming pool.

Both crocs and gators have all the strength in their snapping power, so if you can get their mouths closed, you should be able to hold it shut with both of your hands.

I guess the sarcasm in my post wasn't strong enough...

As far as the pic goes... I didn't do a big investigation on it to see if it was really a gator versus a croc. It was a large reptile... good enough for me to want to stay away from it.

Furthermore.. nobody pays attention to the "Florida Gators"... as they lately have been "also rans". :heh: (j/k... as I do root for you guys when you face FSU. :heh: )
