Ok, i'll try not to get onto a tangent about young people now-a-days having no manner, but no promises.

I'm currently in the process of trying to hire a new administrative assistant. I had scheduled 2 interviews this week.

Wednesday: the interview was at 1pm. At 1:20pm, i decided to check my email. lo and behold, the guy wrote me, apparently at 12:20pm and told me that he decided not to come to the interview b/c he didn't think he could commit his time for the job.

Thursday: interview also at 1pm. At 1:05p, i get a phone call. hmmm...who could this be? "yes, may i speak to ___? oh, hi ___, this is DW, we had an appointment at 1pm....yeah, well, i just got out of another appointment, and i decided to take that job. so i won't be coming into the interview. ok bye."

now, granted, these obviously aren't the type of people i would want to employ anyways. but is it me, or would you not be pissed about it? the second guy didn't even apologize. if he had, i would have at least said, "well, good luck at your new job." but now i hope he gets a bad paycheck, trys to deposit it, gets arrested, then fired b/c of his criminal record. (sorry GG, nothing personal). :P

I know what you mean, but it could have been worst, they could have NOT called or emailed at all. Now that would have been super disrespectful.

Sounds like you got a promotion from the last time I remember... congrats on that RoniMan... if it happened....:) if not... congrats anyways :)

That wasn't disrespecful, it was rude. but they didn't treat you entirely without respect. They did both contact you.

But yeah, they suck.

No, I wouldn't be pissed about it... at least they saved you the trouble of interviewing them!

Hiring a new employee sucks, because it's tough to make a good judgement call on them based on a 30 min (or whatever) interview. It's nice when they make the decision for you & you can easily move on to the next resume.

I was calling candidates for interviews one time, and I called this guy who had a really good resume. However, he sounded so annoyed with me when I called him I decided that he must be too busy with other things to do this job, so I declined him even before I set up the appointment. Another easy one to cross off the list!

Yeah... those people were downright considerate.

We *hired* someone here at work, and he didn't show up for his first day on the job! When we called to find out what happened, he apologized and explained that he had found a better job and would not be taking our job!

I am just beginning to get back into the civillian job market, and I cannot imagine people being so rude. I understand that they did make contact about not being able to make it, but that still cut into someone else's day. I am sure there were things you would much rather have been doing that were more productive than waiting for someone to show up for an interview.

my thoughts exactly! again, i'm glad i didn't hire them. however, i was just upset that those people didn't have the courtesy to realize that i set my schedule up with that time slot reserved. i could have done something else more productive, like surf for pr0n, or posted here.

anyhoot, done and forgotten. but to being pr0ductive.....

People like that piss me off. I wish there was a way you could claim them as an employee that quit without notice for background checks...

Haha its a pretty fair trade. Just remember. Its access, sometimes free tickets sometimes not. I'm actually paying and going to see clippers/lakers, and clippers/heat. With a 65 dollar ticket, and 10 dollar charge for an all you can drink bar. So its a pretty sweet deal. :)

Maybe it's your website? Maybe they all know something about the job or company that your company doesn't know.

Well maybe that is the problem then...the website that doesn't exist and not the pile of dead bodies you've collected playing urbandead.com every day. :)
