i am looking for a good camera less than $300. The camera needs to have a fast refresh time and a fast boot up time.

rechargeable battert AA a +

I am looking at this one Kodak DX7630

is there a better one for the $$
I want one that will take good pet pictures.

that one is a little slower than i would like shot to shot time about 5 seconds.
the kodak is 2 seconds. those critters move quick and i need to take quick pix. also the two reviews i read did not like the clam shell door said it was too sensitive..

any other sugestions?

Go with the sd400. If you have a problem with the batteries go get a few on ebay. I got 2 for $10 shipped and they last much longer than AAs.
