Well I ordered one as I was looking for a cheap (read: disposable) laptop to take to class, etc. For $399 AR, I can deal with that. Took the USPS pickup option and 2% off for using Dell credit.
Problem in the past is, Dell keeps cancelling my orders.
We'll see how this goes. I can REALLY use this laptop!

Hmmm - how long does it take to confirm an order???? I see my Dell account was billed, but no order confirmation.
Up to 24 hours is what they say. I've seen upwards of about 30 hours though.

Nope - no order confirmation. I just logged in to find that I have no orders pending. Once again, my order was mysteriously lost.
And people wonder why I hate Dell...... (grrrrrr)

Months ago, I called when an order was cancelled. That time, I did receive an order number... which was later cancelled. It was re-entered by the sales person, only to become cancelled again a couple days later.
This time, I am not going to waste my time calling them. The deal I got isn't available anymore... which had free shipping to the USPS (instead of the $49 or even a handling fee). That would have been $399 AR - period. For $399 plus the price of a cheap wireless card, I'd much rather slip that into my bag and take to college.. at that price it's not the end of the world if it is damaged/scuffed/etc.
Yes I could still have a freind order one for me for $448 (add the $49 shipping now), however I am steaming a bit.

Well my mother ordered one for me - it's pathetic when your 75 year old mother has to place the order to Dell for a danged laptop. BTW the order was accepted and confirmed within minutes.

Nope! I checked the order status as it was supposed to ship on Friday the 14th. Keep in mind that my mother, while retired, is still gone quite a bit - so I wanted to have a good idea when she could expect the delivery. So I checked the order, and noticed "cancelled" next to it.
The clinker here is, my order was for $399 AR - free USPS shipping and free printer (not a biggie - worth $10 on eBay). Dell didn't even accept it. So I go through my elderly mother to get one at $473 AR (with $25 warranty upgrade that I overlooked, and $49 shipping). Dell kills that. I guess Dell doesn't need to sell computers????
If anyone has an idea for a cheap new laptop (why buy used when there are $400 - $500 new ones??), let me know. I don't mind dealing with rebates, but with Dell, there is no sales tax - makes a big difference when you pay sales tax on the pre-rebate price.
