This one has me puzzled. I have a dual monitor setup - the primary via DVI, the secondary via analog DSUB. The other day I brought the system out of standby, only to have the DVI monitor go into power save as soon as the Windows "welcome" blue screen came on. Up until that, it was on. IOW I read the Dell splash screen/RAID drive screen/Windows XP screen with the blue NCC1704 dealibob - but then the power LED goes amber and the monitor displays "DVI Power Save".
Worked with the display settings (noting that the second monitor was greyed out) to no avail. I tried another video card, it did the same. Re-installed the correct driver - still the same. I tried another computer - did the same. Tried another monitor on the DVI input - WORKED. I swapped monitors left for right - solved the problem. Yes - SOLVED THE PROBLEM. Until this point, I was suspecting I had a monitor with a problem. Reversed the monitors, kept working. Thought it was a fluke... but I just rebooted the system and thhhpt!
Hardware is...
Dell XPS Gen 2
ATI 9800XT 256MB graphics card
Dell 1800FP monitors x 2
Windows Xp Pro.
Signed, frustrated!
