I did a nine mile run this weekend, and I've never had a greater appreciation for Gatorade in my life.

Our family likes a product called "Performance" made by Shaklee. Once you read their literature "comparing" it to Gatorade, it's pretty convincing.

I drink a lot of water. Usuallt it is what I have with meals. Aside from that, I drink Gatorade after workouts. Helps me get my energy back. My favorite one is cirtus cooler - Jordan's favorite. But after a tough workout any flavor will do.

after exercise, water's always good, but i tend to have a craving for something sweeter, so i go for the Propel. i like it because i can't stand the flavor of gatorade; propel is kinda like it, but the flavor is less potent.

Powerade Arctic Shatter or Gatorade Glacier Freeze.
Propel is nasty (artificial sweeteners :puke: )
Penta Water is also really good. :D

Water only. Glucose packs for long runs (8 miles or more), but I can't drink Gatorade or other sports drinks while I run - gives me cramps.

I like Water first.. I used to like Gatorade in college. I love Fierce Melon, ORange, Lemon Lime, and at times Fruit Punch, the lemonade flavor was ok.

Most of the time nope. Once in a while, but I don't do any artificial sweetener if I can avoid them. Aspartame, Saccharin, sucralose, sugar alcohols, etc.

Ya know, the dirty secret of sports drinks is that they don't do damn diddly nothin' more than water does . . .
The only reason why Gatorade and Propel can claim to replenish more this and that than water can, is because on average, people drink more Gatorade or Propel after exercise (because of the sweet taste), than they would have drank of water.
Ounce by ounce, there is such little difference . . . the difference comes in the average volume consumed . . . and the explanation for the difference in volume consumed is the taste.

No, the sugar, salt, and B-vitamins are what helps.

Not sure if I completely agree with you on this one...
Propel has 10% of vitamin C, 25% of niacin, 10% of vitamin E, 25% of vitamin B6, 4% of vitamin B12, 25% of pantothenic acid, 35mg of sodium per 8-ounce serving. Water has none of the above.
Not saying that I would rely on Propel for my vitamin intake, but it does appear to offer some advantages that plain water does not.
Anyhow, for those wanting a free bottle:

And from that article....
But for extended periods of exercise or exertion, sports drinks containing carbohydrates and electrolytes do help prevent dehydration and restore important minerals lost through perspiration, the council said.
Like I said....after a long run, Gatorade is AWESOME.

dunno. doubt it because artificial sweeteners don't have the calories you need to replentish the carbs you burn while working out.

I should clarify . . . the sports drinks do certainly add stuff that water does not. However, they do not hydrate better than water . . . and 'hydrates better than water' has been a key selling point for them . . .
Unfortunately, I cannot share any sort of detailed information because it is proprietary, but suffice it to say, one of my former clients was a very large company that competed in both the sports drinks and bottled water markets.
Edit: Yeah, I know this ends up being somewhat of a cop-out . . . but oh well . . . :)

Well, :duh:. Just using the word "hydrate" implies water delivery to your muscles. I always thought Gatorade claimed it "refueled" you better.

Nope . . . marketed as "hydrates better than water" . . . in quotation marks for a reason . . . and the thread has noted many very similar sentiments . . .
has anyone tried Fruit2o & or Aquafina Flavor Splash .....anyone like them?
