Figured I'd post here since it's about the settlement moreso than a phone...

I bought a Motorola V710 cell phone the week it came out, August 2004 and have had it ever since with Verizon. I just saw this link posted on Slashdot today...

Current and former customers who are members of the settlement class (and do not request to be excluded from the class) will need to submit a Claim Form to obtain a refund or credit once the settlement becomes final. You must fully complete and sign the Claim Form and mail it postmarked no later than December 9, 2005, to:

Verizon Wireless Motorola V710 Settlement Administrator
P.O. Box 3775
Portland, OR 97208-3775

Please make sure to first read the Notice and Claim Filing Instructions before completing the Claim Form and mailing it to the Settlement Administrator.

Does this mean all I have to do to be eligible for a refund on my phone ($250 after rebate originally, but I'd be fine with a trade in or any amount back) is to fill out a form and mail it to that address?

I'm not sure how these things work. Originally I thought you had to be a part of the class somehow, so I guess I'm just wondering if anyone that has this phone and bought it before that date can have this remedied.

Any help on figuring out what this legal jargon means would be appreciated greatly, as I hate this phone!

Class Membership:

The class to whom this notice is being sent consists of all present and former customers of Verizon Wireless who activated Verizon Wireless cellular service for a Motorola V710 cellular handset on or before January 31, 2005.

so if your phone was purchased before that time then it makes you part of the settlement claim .....just be sure to send what they're requesting ......i did this w/my insurance company once .....

Cool, I'm part of this settlement as well. Thanks for bringing it up.

By initiating a contract before January, you are part of the class action settlement group. If they had your information on file, I believe they should have sent you a notice prior to trial saying that there was a class action lawsuit that you may be party to - at that point, you would have had an opportunity to send in a notice saying you did not want to be party to it. The only reason you would want to do that is if you wanted to sue on your own - which in this case would make no sense, probably.

Oh yeah, you also had to have another bluetooth device that supports object exchange . . . and you purchased the phone with the intention of using it for object/file exchange with the other bluetooth device . . . (but you're just signing to say it . . . kind of taking your word on it)

Just send in your claim form . . . they will send a pre-paid mailer if you want to return your phone/accessories . . . send the phone/accessories with proof of purchase price . . . if you have no proof, they will give $200.

I'm glad I kept my phone (even though I'm now in Germany).

Hmmm . . . Ben? UC? Anything else to note?
