WSJ has a breaking news note that Samsung is going to pay a fine of $300 million for their role in a scheme to fix the global price of memory chips.

It means the lawyers get half a mil each and everyone fills out a form to split a penny 3 brazillion ways. I'm still waiting on my CD check...it was like 13 bucks or something.

No. They will have to raise the price to cover the $300 Million fine.

ha ha ha. other companies should keep their prices low, so that samsung gets what they deserve, and receive full and just punishment. but alas thats not how the economy works.

except 2 other companies also got fined within the past couple years:
In October 2004 Germany's Infineon Technologies AG <IFXGn.DE> agreed to plead guilty and pay a $160 million fine in connection with the case. In May 2005 another South Korean manufacturer, Hynix Semiconductor Inc. <000660.KS>, agreed to pay $185 million.

however.... america didn't fine the american company...micron....because they "cooperated".

so, hopefully micron memory will be cheap.

I bought 4 (mediocre) Kingston 512's on the great CCity rebates during August-all under $25 each.
