old lap top with hd. Laptop no workie. Buy exact copy of laptop on ebay. Take out hd on old laptop, plug into new laptop?

oh well even if it fails, i guess i could just pull the info and put it on dvd and get it on the new laptop.. duh.. i stupid.. still curious on what you think.

why not just get a usb/firewire enclosure or interface for the hard drive and just hook it up to your comp.

Yes, it will work assuming your HD is still good. But if you just want the data, do as Spigs suggested.
