THIS IS NEW SO PLEASE READ! I returned a laptop with a bad screen that I had only 2 days for a refund. I came to find out that I was charged a 15% restock fee. Well I called DELL and I was told by the person on the phone that "no matter what you return(bad or good), you will be charged a 15% restock fee. I was told that the dell website DOES NOT specify when the restock fee will be applied.

wow that sucks. I seem to recall though that when my girlfriend purchased a laptop a month or so ago through the website, we read somewhere about the 15% fee on Dell's site.
(We werent sure if we'd keep it since she already has a thinkpad through work)
But yeah, I am pretty sure it says there is always a 15% restock fee.
On the 'when the restock fee will be applied' ... I'm not sure about that, but I'd assume it gets applied after you've purchased it, and after you return it ;)
Sorry about your laptop :(
(Though you can probably tell them it was DOA.. or rather, I believe Dell has a 15day period where you can exchange it or something, but not return it)

if the items defective, you won't be charged... or at least you shouldn't
