Are you more or less likely to buy an item if it has a famous name attached to it? ex: Brittany Spears' Curiosity perfume, Gwen Stefani's LAMB clothing, Mandy Moore's t-shirts, etc.

I was jean shopping this weekend, and saw a cute pair of jeans that turned out to be J. Lo's brand, G.Lo. I just couldn't bring myself to even try them on, because celebrity brands annoy the crap out of me. But they must have some sort of effect on people's buying habits, cuz celebrities keep doing it! so what's your thoughts on the matter?

Somewhere between no influence and a little negative influence on my decision. If I like it, I'll buy it. But I'm not going to go out of my way to buy anything because they paid a celebrity to put their name on it.

Edit: Just to be clear, I won't be buying any Brittany Spears or Mandy Moore stuff, what with me being a guy and all...

I don't buy celebrity brands but there are hardly any for guys anyway. I would buy brand name clothings though. The only "celebrity brand" I would buy is "Air Jordan" stuffs.

i don't care either way, but i would probably tend not to buy something that had a celeb's name on it.

the only thing i can think of that are cool, for a guy, is what bachviet said, Air Jordans. cause who doesn't want to be like Mike? :D

Personally, I don't care either way...

It's way overpriced as it is released in the "trendy stores", however I just sit back and wait for it to hit the "secondary market" and clearance racks and drop about 50 - 75% of the original retail markup.

AKA I'm not a labelwhore.

My g/f, however, loves her G.Lo pants. She says they are the most comfortable pair she's even owned. A couple of weeks ago, we went to Lucille's and every single server was wearing the G.Lo pants (you can tell because they have a unique dot pattern on the butt :naughty: )

At most I buy Brooks Brothers, some Polo, have two Armani suits. Otherwise I am just a simple guy, wear some Eddie Bauer, J. Crew, Dockers (I am sure Burz is gagging at those).

I also refuse to buy any Tommy Pullmyfinger.

Ok buudy :) it depends what line of work you're in, i used to wear dockers when i was tech support. No way in hell would i want to crawl around in Hugo Boss, or armani pants under a friggin table connecting cables.

So no i'm not gagging, now if you wear them when you go out... then that's a whole other beast

When I go out it's to the local pub to have a pitcher or 3 with some other swillers. No high-end clubs for me.

so there you go, that's why, everyone has their thing.

Speaking of high end places, i'm going to one today in NYC, it has beds instead of tables. SO you just chill out on these huge beds while getting vodka poured down your throat, with sushi and other yum yums

I did go to a place like that in South Beach called Nikki Beach

Went there during the day with a friend after the cfa exam. I was dressed pretty well, but still felt a bit underdressed, good time.

This pink-and-purple-neon-lit lounge features 29 beds, an 800-gallon jellyfish tank, 84 inch plasma on the main floor and unisex bathrooms with one-way-mirrored stall doors (you see out). Not ready to get supine in terry-cloth slippers (there are drawers in the beds for your purses and shoes)? Wallflowers can hide by the D.J. in the smaller room downstairs and watch twenty flat screens playing a live feed of the party above.

Honestly...I don't think celebrities really design anything....I think they just endorse them and say the designed them. Cause if Ty Pennington designed a home suite...you know it's gotta be hand made by him.

Listen, I didn't buy a George Foreman Grill because I already have enough "utilities" in my kitchen to open my own restaurant there..but my friend decided I needed one..so she got me one, I used it once and decided it was crap. It's sat in the store room ever since..The catch pan underneath didnt even fit well under the lip of the thing and the grease from the steak I cooked traveled all along the edge to the back an dripped all over my counter..bah..why make more mess for yourself..that's why they put indoor grills in stovetops.

Well the difference is, I think, that a labelwhore goes with whatever is trendy and hot and fashionable, etc. etc. etc. while I tend to go for what is comfortable, while I still look good (In my opinion)

I just tried a spritz of Celine Dion's "believe" and Thought I'd give a review: it starts out strong and lasts and lasts, but it's sickly sweet with a lasting twist of sour lingering notes that made me say "ugh."

One word review: Phew!
