Advanced Water Cooling??

My neighbor put a water dispenser which cools small bottles in the trash last night. It appears that the spout broke on the unit.

I brought it over to my house thinking it could probably cool a processor really really low. I have a regular water cooling unit for a processor which I never installed. I could probably adapt it to this dispenser just to see what the results would be.

Any ideas on this project? Is it a good idea or a dumb one?

Oh I have seen this before. You are using the chilling unit as a more advanced heat exchanger than a regular radiator/fan combination. You should get some good temps with that, but the hard part is making it look good. Sounds like a good project!

Also, to get those temps down a little more, you might want to consider a peltier block because you will probably be able to absorb quite a heat load. That will really get that processor temp down.

What is interesting about all this is that anyone who went through Mechanical Engineering knows how to do this thanks to those wonderful fluids, heat transfer and thermodynamics courses you had to take. Since I'm an EE, we had a class in electronics cooling design that covered all of this in detail for cooling processors, power transistors, motherboards, etc in all kinds of scenarios. I must admit, I do enjoy an interesting engineering problem like trying to keep my @load AMD 3000+ processor temps below 37C while keeping the system nice and quiet.

Small coolers can be easily overwhelmed by the heat put out by a cpu. Consider using it as an addition to a radiator rater than replacing it.Have it chill the radiator cooled water.
Remember that you need to insulate the hoses if they are carrying chilled water to prevent condensation.
