Hello. I am having really bad poping and hissing sounds when playing video files in windows mediaplayer. I have a soundblaster live value card and 4pt cambridge digital speakers, and an ATI all-inwonder 128. All other audio is fine. Why would this suddenly occur? I don't know if it is the sound or video card, or windows media player causing the problem. I have the newest drivers for both cards and am running wmp v6.4.

Thanks for any help given

Open up the windows volume control window. Adjust each volume signal until the hiss goes away. That should solve the problem.

What OS are you using?

I am running Win98. the noise goes away when I lower the wave/directsound/mp3 level, but the sound also goes away. It is not the speakers because other things sound great like mp3s.

The problem does not occur when playing asf files, but mpg4 avis are really bad.

usually that means that you burned out either the amp on your soundcard or your speakers.

This is what they sent me:
1. Shut down and restart your system in safe mode.
2. Go to device manager and remove the listings for your sound card under
creative miscellaneous devices and sound, video and game controllers.
3. Go to add/remove programs and remove all of the software associated to
the sound card.
4. Go to Start > Find > Files or Folders and do
a search for the following files and delete any that you find:

CTMISC.INF
EMU10K1.INF
CreativeEMU10K1.inf
DRVDATA.BIN
DRVIDX.BIN
AWEMAN.DLL
AWEMAN32.DLL
EMU10K1.VXD
SFMAN.VXD
DEFAULT.ECW
CTSYN.VXD
CTMM16.DLL
CIFMAN.VXD
AUDIOHQ.CPL
AHQCPRES.DLL
A3D.DLL
2GMGSMT.SF2
4GMGSMT.SF2
5. Go to start>run>msconfig. Choose selective startup and uncheck all of
the boxes below. Hit apply and then ok.
6. Restart the system, reinstall the drivers and the software.
7. Go to start>run>msconfig. Choose normal startup. Hit apply and then
ok. Restart the system.

Sould I do this? Will removing all of those files affect other things?
