Congrats. This will probably be one of the most stressful element of your relationship (wedding plans). Good luck and don't kill each other.

Thanks all for the congrats and well-wishes. Yes, this will be the end of my bachelor days, but we're both really excited about everything. We've known each other for ages and even dated in high school, but have remained in contact over the past few years. Fortunately, I'm having very little to do with the actual planning, but it has been a PIA, as many venues for the reception, etc., in my neck of the woods (coastal MS) were wiped out. At any rate, we're planning for the big day to be either the last Saturday in Feb or the first Sat in March.
I'm also luckily far removed from the wedding planning, other than via internet and phone calls, as I've been displaced to the middle of nowhere (Jackson, LA) due to Katrina. She's looking for a job in the New Orleans area now (She's a Ph.D. chemist).
No special wonderful proposal story, though. All romantic venues in our hometown were destroyed, so it was pretty much the standard fare down-on-one-knee will you marry me type proposal on the deck behind her parents' house. No magic flashes or anything. We'll both be in New Orleans this weekend so she can finish throwing away much of my old stuff that's accumulated over the years so that she'll have room to move in after the big day.
She loves the rock. No pics available now, tho. :(
Thanks again!

Hey, I've been busy, ok? :) Being displaced from New Orleans to BFE has its disadvantages, like limited internet access.

Yeah, but I'm still in BFE. My apt in NOLA is alright, with power, water, etc., no flood damage, but the hospitals are closed. so my residency was transferred to Baton Rouge, Houston, and here. I'll be heading back to NOLA or MS on weekends, though, until things reopen, which may not occur until about Jan 1.

Hey, congrats. man. Our hospital recently took a couple of residents from that area also but I've heard that you guys are getting it pretty rough being relocated all over the place. Glad to hear you're getting to finish your residency.
Oh, also... PICS!!!

if we've learned anything over the last year about the planning....tell the parents up front that it's YOUR WEDDING and you will plan it accordingly.

Yeah, it is kinda rough. I'm about 2hours north of NOLA right now. It's in the middle of nowhere, but I'm getting some good experience (a state forensic mental health hospital). We Tulane and LSU residents are scattered all over the country, but I requested to stay local (instead of Houston) since my apartment was untouched and I was considering this whole engagement thing.
Pics? We'll see. :)

Yeah, we're already running into some problems. 2 younger brothers whom my mom wants to be groomsmen, but that would mean I'd have to pick one as a best man (and they're twins) or my dad. I have a few close friends I'd rather have up there with me. And she's kinda short on bridesmaids, as most of her friends/colleagues are from/in all over the world, since she's been doing chemistry research for the past many years. To avoid a very lopsided-looking wedding party, I'm going to have to put my foot down on this.
At least we picked the church, the priest, and she's picked the florist, invitations, etc. It's nice having her living in the city where the wedding will take place (our hometown in MS) while I'm up here in Jackson, LA. And since we're shooting for Feb 25 or March 4, depending on reception site availabilty, we're under a bit of a time crunch.
But I've never been happier. :)
