I just bought my linksys router and hooked up my cable modem yesterday. Now the router and or possibly my computer keeps dropping my wireless connection making me manually reconnect. Also my network icon in the corner doesnt show that any connection is made even though i am online. However on the rare occasion that it does show, i am running at only 24mbps... not my 54... any suggestions... i did upgrade the firmware fyi

Which security settings if any are you using...
Also, which channel are you using by default? (if it is "6", I'd recommend that you switch it to something else...)

Does your computer drop it while you arent using it?
I know that certain laptop/notebook computers are setup to automatically shutdown/disable wireless connections when they go into any power saving modes..

You already did the firmware upgrade, but do a hard reset as described in the post and try the reg hack.
I have not seen any ill effects a year later. I put that reg hack on every 2K/XP box I set upthat I know will use broadband.
Let me know if it works...

make sure you use channel 1 6 or 11. Eveything in between those overlaps and causes interference with other networks.

I have a wireless bridge on my ReplayTV unit and I swear EVERYTHING camps channel 6. The Linksys bridge I have even comes default channel 6. I had to set it to a different channel altogether just to get a stable link to download my recordings.
