don't know if this is discussed, but i have a nano thats screen is pretty scratched up. just from normal usage i guess. never dropped or anything. i know that there's a lawsuit out right now, but if i wanted to get the screen fixed, would i need to pay for it? or should i just want for the case to end? i dont know exactly how the lawsuit would benefit me, but just wondering what i should do. thanks in advance.

wow... i didn't know there was a lawsuit... thats gonna be hella hard to win though... cause there so many variables involved, and i don't think any company would have a scratch policy...

Isn't there a massivev recall for the 4 gig nano because of this?

Try buying some brasso or use some toothpaste and a fair amount of elbow grease with a paper towel on the screen/case.

I know the damage is already done, but for anybody who is planning to buy one soon, I'd recommend covering the whole front face with clear protective film. These things are so beautiful. It's such a shame to get it messed up. The day I bought my 4 Gen iPod, I really covered that thing up even though there wasn't any known scratch issue.

There is no recall, especially not a massive one. There was a different known and admitted by apple about the LCD screen cracking. It wa a manufacturing issue with one of the vendors and is a small issue. Apple is replacing those affected by this for free of course. article (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20050927-5358.html)
For the scratching thing as Probly recommended using some brasso or toothpaste. Or if you're lazy and have a dremel get some buffing pads and plastic polishing compound will work wonders quickly. Then get some protection. Probably the best one out is the invisibleShield (http://www.theinvisibleshield.com/). Stuff is pricey for what it is but everyone I hear that has it has been real happy with it.
