So I got one last year - total time using it altogether adds up to be a month if that - suddenly I can't access the menu - and then the words fade out to nothing and blends with the backlight - then at its own will and accord the words will show up - I didn't buy a warranty - its maybe a month over a year that I bought it - I'm doomed....

can't you buy applecare now and then use it?

I don't think I can - they said at the time of purchase - it is ridiculous - I hardly ever used the thing.:disa:

You could try calling and tell them you got it as a gift. They will ask for the serial number and then you might still get them to replace it becuase they know when certain serial number lots expire. Just a thought.

This is the reason you need to buy an Ipod Nano....Nano all the way.

go to apples web site, go to support, down the right side, you can put in your serial number and see if it is still under warranty. If it is, you can then submit a request to have it repaired, all on the website.

This is why you purchase with your AMEX Blue to get an extra year warranty

went to the store yesterday - it is no longer under warranty - they reformatted my Ipod. I hope that works..... other than that if the issues persist - then there are other options - one of them being I can replace it for 62$ or something and the others I haven't discussed with the guy.

I think a lot of credit cards offer this, not just AMEX. Many consumers don't know about it, though...

Is it just me, or all these little niggling problems evidence for built-in obsolescence? My iPod is only a little over a year old but it's mangling some of my files and hangs every once in a while, and while skip songs by itself. WTF! I hope Apple isn't becoming secure in its position with such tactics like the American automakers of years past and present.

I sure hope not - the usage of my own mini isn't even frequent enough for it to act up this way which is why I was/am upset about it. But the guy at the Apple store we are suppose to update the Ipods frequently and also once in a while restor to factory settings and stuff - but make sure the files are saved and stuff as well.

It's called a corrupt harddrive. All that syncing and turning on and off and whatever affects hardrives after awhile, and has nothing to do with Apple. 9 times out of ten just doing a restore and resync fixes the problem.
