Advanced Micro Devices this week decreased pricing on its desktop and mobile processors. The price slash varies from 2% to 25% and comes days after analysts said they expected lowering the costs of desktop and mobile computers going forward.
The most noticeable changes include the price decrease of dual-core processors: the most expensive chip now costs $803, whereas the most affordable is priced at $328. One of the most powerful desktop processors – AMD Athlon 64 4000+ – is now priced at $341. The most advanced 64-bit value chip, AMD Sempron 3400+, officially costs $120, while the most affordable AMD processor is sold for $74. Other changes reflect significant price-slash on other mobile and desktop processors from AMD.
The price decrease from AMD could spur sales of its microprocessors and computers on their base during Holiday season. AMD already sold record number of its microprocessors in the most recent quarter.
Intel Corp. did not decrease pricing of its desktop and mobile processors recently, but customers still demanded record quantities of its chips, according to Intel and analysts.
