$280. Holy crap. I didn't know what to say. While I realize it's not exactly a frivolous expense, I was still stunned to hear the total.

she doesn't really do sale shopping but i think we could save a lot of money if she did.

and nope, it's not just for a week. it had been a while so she had to stock up on a lot of staples. peanut butter, vanilla extract, flour, etc.

sigh....what can i say? it's expensive having a family. but well worth it!

We dont' huge trips like that. We also do shopping at more than one store, so it's tough to gauge.

We purchase alot of stuff from Costco...so trips to the local grocer don't have big tabs like that.

You've got kids, though; to me, that number seems high but not extraordinarily so.

Do you guys have an Aldi Store there? I swear for staple stuff like Pure Vanilla flavoring, flour, Sugar, etc..you can't beat their prices..
On the average I spend anywhere from 60-75 dollars a week, but thats only for fresh produce, fruit and "little extra's".My brothers and I take advantage of a local meat market who gets their meat locally, that lets you purchase package deals on meat-150lbs of beef (assorted cuts) is 200 dollars, a slaughtered hog is 150 for good cuts. so we share. Fresh meat is soo much better if you know where it comes from...My house is pretty well stocked with everything else..I never let the staples run short. Cause you never know when people will show up and be hungry.

Well family replaces everything so before you have a family you must ask yourself what's more important to you... family or everything

How much do you spend when you go grocery shopping?

Somewhere between $60 and $120 on most weekly trips...

Produce is expensive. I stock up on canned corn and soup if it's on sale. I've realized that soup at Target at regular price is almost a dollar cheaper than at Giant or whatever grocery chain there is my area. So I stock up Campbells soup and the Chilli. I also wait for sale like 12 pieces of skinless boneless chicken for 5 bucks.

You can save a lot of money on sale items. Costco is good if you can manage to eat it all withouth getting tired of it or letting it go to waste or eating it at a rate that you wouldn't normally do.

Just feeding for myself on a college budget I'll spend about fifty dollars every 2-3 weeks, although, I do go to fast food places a fair amount too.

When I worked at the grocery store I think the biggest bill I saw was somewhere near 600 dollars.

when you have to stock up for the first time in awhile, it's expensive, because you have to buy supplies you wouldn't normally buy on a regular basis, like ketchup or cooking supplies or whatever. When Graf & I first moved in together, the first grocery trip we spent about $250.

It's been 6 months, and I still can't get over how much it costs to grocery shop for our household! When I was living by myself, I spent about $40 every other week, and now with Graf, it's up to $175 or so. I try to buy stuff on sale, but I don't have the patience or time to do intensive bargain shopping.

:P nah, it means that a grown man eats a LOT more then I do! Plus, it's a change from single eating (essentially college student eating), to eating meals with another person - my dinner went from being a plain cheese quesadilla to apple-cinnamon pork chops, scalloped potatoes, and steamed veggies.

Men may consume more food, but women consume more bathroom products which cost more.

I think it was two full carts. They had a MASSIVE black angus roast that had to have been 70-100 dollars on its own. They also purchased a fair amount of cleaning stuff which can add up in a hurry.

I get $300 in cash every payday for groceries. We usually have some money left and get pizza at the end of the 2 weeks. Last night my wife and I got $121 worth of groceries.

I do the shopping and I spend about $100 dollars every two weeks for food. right now we are on tighten the belt mode so more like $50-60 for two weeks of food.

like what? I think my Husband uses more stuff than I. I don't use makeup, I don't use hair srpay/gel, or any of that crap. I use a bar of soap and shampoo and conditioner, but only because Hubby says I have to buy it.

Don't generalize.

I go to Vons about once a week and it's usually about $40 then after using the club card and coupons it goes down to $20. A few times a month I go to Henry's and spend another $10/trip on fruit and produce.

$30 to $50 a week for a single guy

Once I graduate in 2 months and enter the real world, it'll probably be $50-$75, as I will have money to buy real food like steaks and chicken breasts, instead of just eating pasta and soup :P

Coupons. G/Apexers like the online coupons- use grocery coupons as well. Most stores double them. One way to make more money is to spend less on the things you buy- thus getting more things for each hour you work. This is a good way to look at the cost of things- especially more expensive things. How many hours do you have to work to pay for it?

I can usually feed the three of us and our big dog on $200/month. I usually cook from scratch and freeze leftovers so I don't have to eat out often if I don't feel like cooking.
