Nah... Mase has a deep dark "inner gangsta" that is now trying to re-surface.

More or less there is a big internet rumor about why he dropped out of the rap game for 5 years to "follow the path of righteousness"... having to do with some "big time NYC gangsters" who threatened to "help him see the Lord" alot sooner than expected...

Needless to say, those "gangsters" are now "out of the picture" and sources say it is now safe for Mase to return to his "former self".

Besides, the "glitter suit" Mase was more of a Puff Daddy concoction to sell a bunch of records... which it did. Thus his "non gangsta" persona was definitely increased by that.

:disa: you sound serious. these guys aren't real thugs. they're actors that play up the gansta image to sell records. sure, some of them resort to violence on occasion but i can guarantee you they don't life the life they portray in their music.

You must take this into context...

Those groups "street cred" is higher than your average come and go "gangsta rapper"... and honestly, I don't even consider them "gansta rappers" but more like "street/underground rappers".

You can't always focus on just the "violence" here...

I dunno...Mobb Deep, for one, seems to focus on violence a fair amount.

Can someone queue up "Shook Ones Part II"?

:winkie:

maybe respect was the wrong word to use. i wasn't referring to their gangsta images or their street cred; i just happen to like M.O.P. and Mobb Deep (at least, MD's old stuff), whereas i seriously cannot stand anything put out by the rest of the "G-Unit."

Yeah... but realistically, is EVERY song on their albums like that?

Granted, 50 Cent in the tradition of other "gansta rap" groups (like N.W.A.) feeds on direct association of the image. Some of the other groups just "touch on it"... but not live it to the fullest like others.

That's all I'm trying to say...

Who's to say that EVERY song has to be in that mold? Enough of them are...and that's the point being made.

We can go track by track through every album, pick 'em out. Not gonna be too many love songs found (for that we'd need R. and some 14 year old girls). :hihi:

Oh well... if you've already made up your mind on that...

But honestly, I still don't consider them "gangsta rappers". Such is opinions...

Hard to argue with facts...but if you say it's opinions, we'll chalk this up as agree to disagree.
