Keep it about a month or so, take it to the office to pawn off on co-workers...then trash it.

I dont think Ive past through a Halloween with left over candies! If its getting late, then the last bunch of kids are the lucky ones that get it all and then the store closes!

Depends on which candies are left over...

Good ones like Snicker bars, Twix, M&Ms, and other "good" chocolates are kept and eventually eaten along with the "good" fruit candies like Starburst, Skittles, etc...

Moderate candies like miscellaneous suckers and hard candies may be kept for awhile... but it is eventually pitched with the NASTY candy (i.e. licorice candies, those NASTY fake peanut butter blobs, old candy corn, and other penny candies).

Yeah.. but if it gets so old that it turns hard and crumbles... then it's time to pitch it. :heh:

Did anyone used to sit at home after trick or treating and sort their candy? I used to sort all of the chocolates together, fruits, hard candies, etc.

I did that! But I was also so nutty as to count it and make a list so I knew what my sister stole. Her candy never lasted as long as mine. I also hid my stash in a sombrero hanging from my ceiling. Seeing all my sorted candy on the floor made me feel rich. It still does.

Last year we bought 2 Costco bags of candy and only had 1 trick or treater. As such, we ended up getting fat and happy. Ok, so we didnt really get fat but eating all that candy sure makes me feel like I am packing on the pounds.

This year, we only bought 1 bag, which means we will have TONS of kids. If not then we will just get not quite as fat as last year but happy none-the-less. I think it took us several months to get through those 2 bags and that was with LOTS of help.

Yep, my brothers and I went through a big sorting process, and then had a massive trading session. "one box of nerds for 3 sweettarts!", and that sorta thing. And all the candy we didn't like automatically went to my dad or the dog. I know that chocolate is supposed to be lethal to dogs, but Lucky really loved mounds candybars! *sigh* ahhh, for the simpler days!

I gave out a full size bar and a handfull of misclanious candy to each trick or treater... All seven of them, if you count the mom that I gave some candy to.

The rest will be force fed to co-workers.

I think I was smoking crack when I bought candy this year. A grand total of 5 kids came by. Now I'm sitting on 60+ full size snickers bars. I HAVE to get them out of the house. Soon. I should bring some into work.

Sure thing.

But I should point out that I keep a candy bowl year round. I keep it on someone elses desk though. That way they are tempted and not me. It started last year before Holloween. I kept dumping chocolate, snickers and twix in it even after though. Now the person who's desk I leave it on (who is very fond of twix btw) points at me all the time and says "Eeeeeevil!!!"

In the paper today they ran "recipes" for using leftover candy. Freezing then breaking it up for use in custom ice cream sounded good. They had an interesting smoothie recipe using kit kats too. I'll have to check it out and post it tonight.

• Turn chocolate candy like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers and Hershey's into a warm chocolate fondue. In a deep saucepan, heat equal parts candy pieces and evaporated milk, stirring until the two are blended. Serve in a bowl or fondue pot with fresh fruit and pretzels for dipping.

• Chop candy to use as ice-cream mix-ins. Frozen candy breaks into pieces easier than at room temperature.

• Use frozen puff pastry to make candy strudel. Break pieces of candy and roll up in frozen puff pastry. Bake according to package directions.

• Add M&M's to sugar cookie dough and bake according to package directions.

• Use tubes of frosting to coat graham crackers. Gently press Skittles, candy corn or M&M's into the frosting to make flowers, rainbows or random designs.

• Freeze Halloween candy to use in December to decorate a Christmas gingerbread house. Most candy will keep in a well-sealed bag for up to three months.

• For a post-Halloween smoothie, combine 1 cup chocolate milk, 1 cup chocolate ice cream and one Kit Kat candy bar in a blender. Process until smooth.
