...but I'm not going to let you see them yet, because I'm too busy celebrating the fact that I got power back today.

This was the first time I've ever been in the eye of a hurricane. It was incredible. You go from raging winds and rains to complete and total silence in the span of 10 seconds. Anyway, this is the "holding thread" in which I'll enter some pictures of the damage (of which there was a lot).

If you're lucky, maybe I'll even post some of the funny and ridiculous stuff I heard after the hurricane.

So how long was the calm in the middle of the eye? I've always wondered about how it would be to be sitting in the middle of the eye. I think it'd be cooler if I could just fly along with the eye in a helicopter until the storm dissipated.

It only lasted about 10 minutes (I'm guessing, of course...I didn't have power).

Here's the first pictures. I have a video I took with my digital camera, but it's pretty crappy...although at least you can hear the wind and get some idea of how loud it is.

Is that your home? I saw some pics from St. Bernard's Parish and that place was just destroyed.

Nah, it's not my home, but it's in my neighborhood. My home actually fared really well during the storm. Other than a little debris here and there, which was easily cleaned up, my place was unscathed.

That's good news. Hopefully Beta is the last of 'em all.

I got to see a lot of pics of Charlie last year as my parents were stuck down there for it. I couldn't imagine living down there and then hearing one is coming haveing to make the chioce to stay or leave and if you leave not knowing what you are going to come back to.

Glad to hear you are all okay.

Hey IAHAD,

Glad you and your house are OK. I was watching pretty intently as I've spent a week or two of each spring since being in the womb until a year or two ago in Lauderdale by the Sea.

Couldn't find much on Google News though it looks like everyone's still boiling water.
