I have the original wave model and love it. I'm able to do almost any type of work around the house/car/computer without anything else in a jam. Pricing of different models isn't about better but more about the certain type of need. Might want to check out leatherman's site for more specific info as they have a "toolfinder" that you answer a bunch of questions and it recommends models. http://www.leatherman.com/

I've had a Gerber Multi-Plier model for about 10 years - very handy to have. I like the "flip down" jaws of the pliers because it's quick and easy to do with one hand. I've also got an "accessory" case that keeps additional sockets and screwdriver tips behind the tool.

I think Costco (at least my local one) sells the original Leatherman. Might save a few $$$ and get it there. It's a good product...

I have 2 of them... one of the little ones w/scissors & one of the bigger ones with pliers. I barely ever use either of them.

I carry the little one in my briefcase & it occasionally comes in handy, but the big expensive one (a SuperTool 200 - gift from a vendor) I don't think I've ever used. I have all of the proper tools (like screwdrivers, pliers, etc.) so I never think to go for the all-in-one tool. It would probably be handy to keep in the car or someplace you don't normally have tools.

More expensive=better? Depends on what they want it for. To carry around every day, I think the smaller ones would be nicer. To do more tasks, the bigger ones.

Heh - that should clear up ALL of your questions!! (I guess sometimes I post just to hear myself type)

I like the Wave model because you dont have to open it to get to the blades... I also have the Squirt. It's handy to carry around in your pocke. I only carry the Wave on days I know I'll be working with it.

:stupid: I started using one in the ARMY and never stopped. I like the Gerber over the leatherman because I like the full size pliers, rather than the needle-nose that the Leatherman usually has. Not quite as cool a name, but better for my needs.

a decent leatherman is all tool you need for 90 percent of computer hardware work.

I have the Wave and the Micra. The Micra is very useful on a keychain, and the Wave for more complex issues.

I've got tons of knock off ones. Even one that is shaped like a hammer, then it splits apart to form pliers.

I like my Wave, but I see some good aspects of Gerbers as well. I'm open to either one, but it depends on what specifically you're looking for.

They sell the wave model at Costco for $60 and it comes with several additional things. I have had mine for about 3 years now and use it occassionally. It honestly depends on where I am when the need arises. I have had multiple times where I cursed not having it with me, but when I am home I generally have tools laying about that I can get to easier than going to my knife/leahterman drawer.

no Costco here. is that similar to Sam's Club where you have to be a member?

I have the wave, the juice and the Gerber equivalent. My wave is my boat tool. Simply put, the best multi-tool I have ever owned. The gerber tool was a gift (found it in my new building, cool!) so I keep it in the truck. I bought the juice thinking I needed a smaller wave to carry around. It's junk compared to the wave. I should have gone with the fuse. Nice multitool.

where I bought mine - excellent service and prices - http://www.1sks.com/store/multitools.html
