We were going to meet some friends up in Grand Rapids and go out to eat, shopping, etc. Sat night.
However, I just got free tickets to the Michigan-Indiana game this Saturday with the other two guys in my team at work and my boss. Free food, alcohol, football, transportation, etc.
And I might get back in time to still hang out with the friends.

Well, how much do the tickets usually cost? Are they hard to get? How many did you get? (Can you ask your wife to go and hope she crosses her fingers and says no thanks?)...How far is the game from where you are supposed to be shopping? Is there any way you can do all of the activities and still stay married? or if you blow off shopping for the game will you be sitting in the Lawyers office on Monday dividing up property? Tell your wife you have the tickets and see what she says..you know your wife the best of anyone..I mean it seems to me that you two do ALOT of stuff together on a general basis-which is cool..if she was one of those neglected housewives who only get to go to the grocery store once a week I think she would have more of a problem with it..In the long run, it would be better all around if you asked HER opinion and not ours..Good luck to you.
(personally I think the football game sounds WAY better than shopping any day!)

"Oh man <friend's name> just broke up with his girlfriend. I better go hang out with him for awhile. You just go on without me."
Drive a nail through your hand about 2 hours before the start of the game. Tell her that you can make it to the ER just fine, and to go without you.
Fake kidnapping note.
"I have a meeting to attend with my boss"
See, all sorts of good ones.

it's friends we haven't seen in years so that sucks. but yeah...we do a lot together so it's not like i'm blowing off a rare opportunity to hang out w/her.
prices? dunno...we (our dept) have season tickets and i don't know how much they cost. i've never been tho'. the biggest attractions for me is the opportunity to hang out w/my boss and co-workers. that's always helpful for your career.

I think stabbing yourself in the heart or throwing yourself in front of a bus will usually break the date. Just make sure to tell your friends before hand to take your body to the game. Trust me. This is the most painless, hassle-free way to pull it off.

reminds me of how i recently cancelled having my mom and other family members over for my mom's birthday dinner and at the last minute tickets for an SU basketball game fell on my lap.
she understood. i had them over the next night.
they'll understand cheapie. just get together with them asap after this.
plus, you said there is a chance you can make both events anyway, right?

Sounded like a joke to me...no worse than driving a nail through your hand suggestion or was there a tone in it that I didn't pick up that was malicious?
Hey I thought you were going to meet us up for the DC metro G|A thing? Or are you hitting all the G|A meetings this month?

Ah I see...I guess I should read more threads. Back to topic. I guess I would choose game just for the whole politics of it all.

not to hijack the thread.. but why does that make any sense??? it's more harsh then a ban - he essentially no longer exists!
