NCAA rejects Illinois' appeal of mascot ban

The controversial mascot. (AP)
The University of Illinois' use of Chief Illiniwek remains a "hostile and abusive" image of American Indians and will keep the university on its list of schools that will be prohibited from hosting NCAA postseason events after February, the NCAA declared Friday.

I find the whole mascot issue to be rediculous. First of all, a mascot is chosen to inspire- and is chosen for the good qualities of it. Lions. Tigers. Bears. Oh my! Vikings and Raiders are possibly more offensive than Indian names since they are more known for robbing, plundering, and raping. Second, people know that a mascot is not real. It does not represent an actual person or animal. It is just political correctness gone haywire.

It's all part of the new secular progressive push for a re-alignment of the country. If you take a vote or poll on something and out of 1000 people, 999 vote for it, and one votes against it, we are all supposed to cow-tow to the one person who was against it so that we don't offend him/her.

What a load of crap.

The most offensive thing:

Last time I read, the Native American tribes were cool with the mascots. The Seminole Nation even gave Florida state their blessing to use their mascot.

So the thing that REALLY chaps my hide is that these lawyers and bleeding heart liberals are telling them that they can't make good decisions on their own should be offended.

"hey, you're an idiot for not being mad about this" :poke:

I hear that the NCAA has sent a delegation to the countries that border the Indian Ocean, to demand they change the name of the ocean. :)

I am as against this as everyone else but to fair to the NCAA they have allowed schools to appeal and instances like Florida State have been allowed to continue to use their nickname and mascot.

Illinois is allowed to continue to be called the Illini but they can't use the Chief as their mascot.

It really is ridiculous but in our society everyone is so concerned about not offending anyone and being PC that it was inevitable. Just look at the comments from Joe Paterno and Fisher DeBerry that received so much public scrutiny. Heck, DeBerry almost lost his job for saying that they needed to recruit more african americans because they are faster than white people.
