t'ain't perfect, but it sure do have character :P
i think my brain is going to have to get bigger to learn how to play it... got to keep chords rolling and throw melody notes in at the same time... i'm no good at that multi-tasking crap...
i must say, building a banjo is much easier than even repairing, let alone building, a violin. don't have to worry about perfectly fitted pieces of wood or measurements smaller than 8ths of inches. lots of wiggle room, and if it don't fit, either jam it in harder or bend it. seriously... the official instructions sanction that kind of behavior :P
and, for those interested: no, i didn't build it entirely from scratch - i do not yet own a lathe or a large plane. i bought a kit that had the neck, pot and resonator already cut... i just had to drill a bunch of holes, finish the wood, pound and twist all the pieces in, and of course cut the byooteefull inlay ;) it's a gold tone kit, and i must say i'm impressed... it sounds every bit as good as, if not better than nodamnedsense's $600 gold tone.
here's the kit:
http://www.goldtone.com/products/kit_mc150.asp
and as is typical for instruments, i got it for way less than the suggested retail price :)

Engraven images, glowing green color. It must have been made in some enchanted wood. Welfare proceeded to have it blessed and submitted for ancient rites by the local Druid. Properly stringed, it shall act as a +2 banjo.

in fact, three names have been suggested for the banjo (we name all of our instruments, heh) and "trogdor" is one of the possible names for it... the others are "swamp thang" (long story) and "clayton" (which is nodamnedsense's real name... his last name being green, and him being a banjo player :P)
and now that i have finished this project, i have promised to get back to blogging, o fan club of one ;) the EG stories have been piling up and need an outlet :P
and heck yeah, it works! i think it sounds better than nodamnedsense's goldtone, because mine is set up well, and his still has the factory set-up... i'm going to start threatening to disassemble and optimize his :hihi: should freak him out (this is the guy who was scared to change his strings the first time, and damn near fainted when his banjo teacher put a couple of nails in his fretboard for fifth-string capos.)

Hmm -- in terms of "swamp thang" are you referring to that dance track by The Grid back in the 90's? (It had a banjo in it).
I do like the colors -- well done. :)
